I’m perfectly fine with AI and I use it daily as my personal assistant and to organize, file, and structure my work and my day. I use it for anything and everything I can find to reduce the tedium of my day to day existence. But the one thing that’s still mine is the writing. Sure, I might use AI to spin up an element of a composition but invariably I will take that and edit, rework and massage it until it is no longer recognizable as the AI’s original work and is now almost wholly mine. But the vast majority of what I do comes completely from ME. I will wholeheartedly use AI to REALIZE a piece of music, but I won’t rely on AI to create it. Anything that allows me to get to my vision with less friction , with better results, faster is a good thing, IMO. Just like any other tool, AI is what you make of it. You can use a hammer to smash windows. Or you can use it to chisel marble into the David. AI is no different. AI music generation is amazing. But it’s also wholly generic. The median average of the median average. What will save all of us is the intangible that is the human touch. That je ne sais pas quoi that is the genius behind all creative work. Yes, AI can do all those things we’ve spent our lives struggling to learn to do, and it can do them faster and in many cases “better” (whatever that means). But the things it can’t replace are the conscious decisions that make our art OURS and universally unique from anyone else. We’re a very long way from AI being able to compromise that.
