Ask Me Anything - about anxiety, OCD or depression.
I am here to offer my experience, opinions, and hypotheses on what they are and what you can do about them. Ask away. John

Hi, typically this is a sneaky aspect of Pure O (video 57) - it is where the unconscious OCD tricks the conscious mind into thinking that unless it understands everything, you can't really move on. This usually occurs in intelligent people who have a repressed playfulness from childhood.

@Monica Lara I have a brief intro here on Pure O https://www.skool.com/the-calmness-in-mind-process-1165/classroom/efee13bb?md=f784bcff03f94548837ba774cdd936cd
Why can some people handle anxiety and others struggle?
Actors step on stage with their bodies shaking, heart racing, and mind screaming they’re about to fail hard. They still go out and perform. They don’t call it “being an anxious person.” They call it discomfort — a temporary bodily experience while they get on with what matters to them. The reward on the other side (doing the work they love, the growth, the aliveness) is worth the feeling. Most people labelled “anxious” do the opposite: they treat the exact same sensations as proof of who they are and let it stop them completely. The sensations aren’t the real issue. The identity you attach to them is. What discomfort are you still letting run your life? Clip from Video 53 - Becoming the lead character in your Game of Life!

A pre-valentines day thought about love...
There is a big difference between conditional and unconditional love. And I think it begins with self-love. This is a clip from video 19.

Is being selfish - good or bad?
Being selfish doesn't really work for me, but learning how to become Selflessly Selfish really did! I had always thought selfishness was bad, but surely putting yourself first is one of the definitions of self-esteem (to a certain extent). This is a clip from video 36 - where I ask, "Is it sensible to be too nice?"

Might repressed ADHD in childhood influence Pure OCD in an adult?
This is just my hypothesis; however, it is based on 20 years as an OCD therapist and on being married to an intensely (and lovely) ADHD woman. I have seen a strong correlation between people with ADHD/ADD (and bipolar) and Pure OCD - especially if a creative, extroverted person had those natural attributes suppressed or repressed during childhood by parents, school, bullying, or some other traumatic event. In this video, I try to outline the patterns I have witnessed. It is not scientific, but it is what I have seen time and time again, and so many people have told me that this knowledge has changed their lives. Much love, John https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip-fXAoqkik&t=124s

Does anybody out there think they might have ADHD and have any questions? My wife has intense ADHD (and she is wonderful), and I have been working with people who have ADD/ADHD for 20 years, so I have many strategies, hypotheses, and perspectives to share :-)
