Quick check-in for you guys…
I didn't forget about you guys and like I keep saying, this very slow moving until I get a course loaded on. I still haven't plugged this group in any way since my initial post. I'm working on putting together some more structured training content and wanted to get a pulse from this group. Where are you currently getting stuck? Is it: - knowing what exercises to pick? - putting together a full program? - progressing (what to increase, when, etc.)? - staying consistent? - working around injuries or limitations? Or something else? Just trying to make sure I build stuff that actually helps vs adding more noise

I would like to see a program and / or ways to pick exercises. Sometimes I feel I over think it, like if I’m doing a flat or incline bench, and I’ll move to a pull exercise, should I do a horizontal or vertical. On the vertical pull should I do a narrow or wide, palm in or palm facing out, and so on. My wife always said I can never make up my mind, guess she’s right🤣😂
Modified Upper/Lower Body Split
Lately I’ve been running a pretty simple upper/lower split again because it fits my schedule / recovery best. . One thing I’ve noticed though, is I feel best when I actually give myself about 3 full days before hitting the same area again. So what I’ve been experimenting with recently is: - Upper - Rest - Lower - Rest - Repeat It’s technically a little lower frequency, but honestly it’s been working really well. I feel more recovered, workouts feel better, and it’s freed up some time with everything else I’ve got going on. I’ll probably look to add a bit more walking/cardio as we get into summer, but for now this setup has been working fairly good where I'm feeling pretty fresh each time without any regressions. Also quick note, I know I haven’t been posting a ton in here, it's going to probably be like that I until I get that first course going. I do want this to be a place where you guys can share and help each other out too, so feel free to jump in, keep things positive, and keep it centered around training. Curious what kinds of splits you guys are using and more importantly, is it actually working for you?

Thanks for sharing Mike. Do you repeat the same exercises, or do you alternate them?

Big win.. Thank you for making that post. i purchased a totalGym evolve. i started on 24 of March at 460 pounds.Today 4/7/26 i weighed in at a real 442.5 pounds. I started the atkins a week prior. i’ve been watching Mike D. Hybrid resistance.. he has some workouts for obesely overweight people on the Total gym , I won’t lie to you. I also have a Tony little gazelle.(I hope we can call that a hybrid resistance workout?) it’s low impact on the knees. I use a walker to get around for no reason, but I’m fat. It’s got shocks and you can adjust the resistance.i’ve been taking it real slow taking it easy. and enjoying the results. my first goal is 350 pounds. maybe I should set it at 400. What do you think? if you blow the picture up, you can see my backyard I get to work out on my deck with the creek flowing in front of me makes it real pleasant.

That’s awesome, keep at it! I was on the heavier side myself - 275 lbs. In January of 2011 I decided it was time for a change. Diet and cardio worked for me, and it sounds like it’s working for you. I know the great feeling when you see the numbers drop on the scale, let that keep you motivated! 💪
Hack Squat (ish) on Total Gym with bands/weight bar... anyone else doing this?
Total Gym _can_ do legs, but without added weight, taxing the legs a lot (as Mike D has said too) is tricky. That said, I've had pretty good luck with a couple hundred pounds on the weight bar, a squat harness, and cranking the height to the max. Questions are: - Am I the only one thinking this is effective, or am I chasing diamonds in the sky, possibly with Lucy? - Today I loaded up 310... I thought the weight limit was 300, but not sure if the bar or the Total Gym will give out first? - Using the Pilates bar with high weight is a catastrophe waiting to happen...I'm assuming? Your thoughts!

I’ve been blessed with half decent genetics in my legs, maybe from being on the heavier side (280 lbs) or maybe from my dad always pushing me to ride my bmx around the neighborhood when I was younger. So I never really felt the urge to train my legs. That said when I do train my legs, I’ve always felt the single leg presses hit my legs good. 3 sets of 20 each leg on my back followed by 3 sets of 20 on the side. (Top level of fit no weight added). If I had enough steam left I would finish with 3 sets of squats holding a 25lb plate. This had me walking funny the next day😄. I will say since getting the lever gym, squats on that feel awesome, which makes me want to train legs more often

@Conor S The powertec has an interlocking squat bar that locks into the lever arms. I have the center of the squat bar on my upper traps and hold the lever arm handles in a neutral grip. This allows me to lean back as I squat which takes a lot of pressure off my lower back.
Split advice for 45+ y/o
Looking for workout split advice. Do you think full body 2-3 times a week, or a push/pull split (or whatever split you do) would more beneficial. Basically looking to build more strength. Thanks💪
