Scanner
I just bought the icon t10. I noticed that on every car the special functions is different. Does anybody have this scanner? I’m still learning it trying to figure out how to work it the other day. I had a crank no start and I wanted to check the RPMs on the crankshaft position sensor and I couldn’t figure out how to get to that setting under special functions

@Jordan Spaid can I take the scanner information off the scan. Like when I send the customer the scan report it has the scanner information on it

Payments
My payment method is cash or card. I have allot of senior citizens that don’t have cards they have checks. Does anyone else take checks? I would rather not take a check but I have no choice sometimes.

@Ryan Shorey customer asked me if I could take a check and I told him no I take cash of card after the job was completed and he said OK that he don’t have cash or a card that he will write me a check and I said OK that’s fine. I just have to cash it and he said that he don’t get paid until the 15th that he can date at 4 to 15th and I was in a situation to where I had no choice but to take a postage check and if that check clears my bank, then that will be the only customer that I will take a post to check from but anybody else I want.

Having trouble charging the right amount for jobs
I have all data I invested in that so I know the labor times for the job. I just don’t know how to go about charging proper. I don’t wanna be too cheap and I don’t wanna be too expensive but I don’t wanna leave too much on the table.

I charge a .5 over the time (that covers travel time) not all times is right. I looked up a labor time lastnight and it said a .8 and I know what that job takes and I quoted it for 2 and the customer asked me when can I do it. It also depends on your area.

@Ryan Shorey and u have to deal with the rust so I agree on that. If I have to deal with a northern car I add an additional hour because I already know I’ll have to fight the rust. A couple weeks ago I had a car from Alaska down here they just moved and he needed the hub bearings changed. I charged him an additional hour per side and he said man that’s cheaper then a shop come on. I’m still new at running a business but everyone is saying I’m doing great. I’m still working out my little kinks.

Slow Days
So I have had plenty of slow days since I started my business. They feel different to me than the slow days I've had when working in a shop for someone else. Anybody else feel that way? Last month was good and this month has been fantastic up until today. I had 1 small job today and nothing else on the schedule. I know the phone will ring and it will pick back up, but it makes my mind wonder and get negative thoughts going.

Just keep ur head up keep pushing. When I started my business I went days without the phone ringing. Like 3-4 days. I just went with the flow. Yes it sucks. Just with the flow and work will come man. I been in business since September 22 2025. Don’t stress over it. It’s easier said than done but just let the good lord work his magic.
