Bad Advice Only: Friday Edition
Let’s have some fun. Give the worst business or money advice you can think of. Bad advice only. Example: “Never track your expenses. It ruins the surprise.” Your turn 👇 P.S. We have monthly prizes for engagement in this community. @Krista Brea won January. @Donna Thornton won February. March still needs a 30-day leaderboard champion. 👀

I have witnessed many times: owners using their business as a personal bank account.

Thank you! Hello everyone, and thanx for the welcome. Sorry this is the 1st moment I've had to respond appropriately. My mother said, "Never go over a guest's house without bringing something." I’m Joe Lau. I’m a former 6 year ER RN and presently a 15 year ventilator and home infusion RN. My side thing is I teach and supply interested people in the old science and art skill of rubbing sticks together to make fire. www.phyredojo.com This is not a commercial. I joined this group because of the “without burnout” part. As a teacher, I wanted to give something that I hope is useful and functional to you that improves your lives. Back in the 90’s (I’m 57 y/o), I came across this book that I found when I was experiencing burnout at the not-nursing job I had at that time. The Truth About Burnout by Christina Maslach & Michael P. Leiter. 1997 The TL;DR is this: 1) Lack of Capacity – Work Overload 2) Lack of Control – No Autonomy 3) Lack of Reward – Not worth it financially. 4) Lack of Fairness – Disrespect. Inequality. 5) Lack of Community – No support. 6) Lack of Values – Pettiness, etc. over what’s really important and what matters… Here’s what I learned from this: Burnout is not something about you. When people say they are experiencing “burnout” but can’t clearly define what’s wrong and why, its because it’s not necessarily a thing, IT’S A LACK OF MANY THINGS. It’s inverted thinking that allows you to see it. It’s what’s NOT there that makes you suffer in all these ways. The short story is that I DESIGNED my home infusion career after many years following these inverted principles. “What do I NOT want in my career?” So, I have REMOVED the things I don’t want in my job. Values: I’m an introvert. My job now involves a LOT of driving (alone) and spending time in a patient’s home with just them (alone). Capacity: I spend the 1st hour and the last 15 mins with the patient doing nursing, and the other 3 to 8 hours waiting for their infusion to finish doing whatever I want to work on… I always bring stuff I want to get done and I get paid to be there to do my work.
