@Daniel Cooper i want to get your opinion on this scenario. youth Club/AAU team 9u. Player goes to all the practices and skills workouts, but when it comes to games the player gets the least amount of minutes deferring to more “talented /skilled” players who missed practice and workouts

I can understand stand the older high school level, program needs to get wins and clout. But at the Youth level I feel like the emphasis on winning far eclipses the need to development
QOTD
Man-to-man vs. zone defense for youth teams. Should there be a set defense taught at a young age like the same way everyone was initially introduced how to properly use your right hand on the right side for a layup? Or should we modify the concepts due to talent level?

Re: defense - Being at the Youth level most teams run a zone. From my experience coaches, who are most comprised of volunteers will spend more time on the offensive end. Unless you get on a club team or have a coach who wants to really take that dive on the defensive end, a 2-3 or 2-1-2 will more often than not be the default.

@Daniel Cooper unfortunately it doesnt. This is my challenge as well, with limited time of practice during the week, we introduce the concepts and also implement but kids are kids and spend too much time on defense and they tend to drift. 🤷‍♂️

@Daniel Cooper coach going through my final box now, Full Time formula. Going to take a little bit!

@Daniel Cooper finished the Full Time formula. For the immediate future I’m focused on getting my girls youth team better. I want to run position less offense and defense and not do the typical “you’re tall go play center your fast, be our PG”. The biggest take away I get from the PDF is better drills matter, but what really moves the needle is building a repeatable structure that consistently brings curious and interested players and engaged families. In the end this is the culture I want to build.
