What is this - Sandstone?
Not sure what this is- I think it’s some kind of lithic sandstone? Seems layered like sandstone but much harder like granite. It has to be old because it is very dense. But its banding makes me think it was a sand deposit. Lots of quartz flecks all over it, but that’s 70% of sandstone! Anybody have any ideas. I feel like there’s probably an obvious answer out there…

Looks like a type of Metaphorphic rock now...Like Gneiss or Schist. Maybe Graphite Schist. Just the next stage has happened to this piece I believe, if it's much harder like granite. Usually have comps of Quartz, Mica, sometime Garnet too... Always lots of banding with Metaphorphic Gneiss which leads me to believe it's more that...

Hello fellow Rockheads πŸͺ¨πŸ™‚, If you love rocks in any capacity, this is your new community. We’re here to share anything and everything rocks, because rocks are awesome. Write a brief intro about yourself and how long you’ve had an interest, your collection, and anything else you want people to know. ROCKS ROCK! Here’s a template to help you get started: Hi my name is ____ and I love rocks. Ive been looking at/collecting for ____. I have (number of rocks in your possession at the moment). My favorite thing(s) about rocks is ____. I’ll start: Hi my name is Paul and I love rocks. I’ve been picking up and looking at them for as long as I can remember. I probably have thousands (I’ve never done a full count) between my childhood home and my current apartment in Brooklyn, NY. My favorite thing about rocks is no matter how mundane, each and every one has a fascinating story of churning through millions upon millions of years of earth movement and depositing. You pick up a rock and you’re often holding something that was around at the time of the dinosaurs. Also they are stunningly beautiful and endlessly unique. No two are exactly the same and I absolutely love that.

Hi my name is Jessica, I'm from Michigan, and I love rocks! I've been collecting my whole life, all almost 41yrs. And yes, I used to eat moss and leafs and lick πŸͺ¨ rocks! Got really into crystals and minerals, and everything energy frequency around 27, and never looked back. Opened my own shop in 2021, and have been collecting and selling now for 5yrs. I have major plans to be a wholesaler one day here in Michigan, and be one of the big guys at Tuscon and other gem shows! πŸ’Ž Currently just out of my home office still, where I conduct in person sales as well as do lives on Whatnot and Tiktok! Had a snag in my adventure and have been sucked into the corporate world working the 50hr work weeks, and not really sure how that happened πŸ™ƒ but have promised myself this year it ends. Finding a decent work/life balance isn't easy, but that's my goal this year, to put more into myself then someone elses... (New golden healers I've acquired πŸ˜‰)
