Chemist looking for a bit of help in starting the idea train
Hello everyone. I am a chemist and I work at a chemical manufacturing plant. We have not used much technology in the past but our leadership sees the value in trying to integrate the use of modern technology and even AI. I'm part of a small group trying to see how we can use AI and create agents that would help with our productivity. We are limited to the paid version of microsoft copilot, right now, but I am trying to think of ways that I can use it to help with repetitive tasks and more than just a search engine. It's a little challenging as I do much of my work in the laboratory. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them and maybe it will start a new way to look at things. Thanks!

@AI Advantage Team Thank you for your reply. We did find one repetitive process and that was the safety assessment for a new project. This is not usually an everyday thing, though. It does take some time to gather all the chemicals and their safety data. We created an agent for that and it has helped so far, though. I'm just wondering if there is something that is right in front of my nose that I am not considering.

@Dionny Chejito That is true and we have been trying to make a shift in the way we store our data so that copilot can see it. Right now, I would say what takes most of my time is really my lab work and documentation. I'm not sure how much of it copilot can actually help me with. I do try and keep a daily log with it though so it can help me generate monthly status reports. I just feel like I'm missing something that I might be able to use it for. Thank you for your input. It helps me to think about more things.
📰 AI News: Karpathy's Ramble Technique: Talk Messy for Ten Minutes, Let the AI Clean It Up 📰
📝 TL;DR 📝 Andrej Karpathy shared a simple prompting habit worth trying today: switch to voice input, ramble for about ten minutes about a messy problem with zero filter, and let the AI reconstruct your scattered thoughts into something clearer than what you started with. No new tool, no product launch, just a genuinely useful pattern anyone can test right now with voice input already built into ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. 🧠 Overview 🧠 This is commentary, not a launch, and it's worth being upfront about that. There's no new feature to install and no announcement to track. What makes it worth covering anyway is that it's a genuinely practical technique from one of the most credible voices in AI, Karpathy co-founded OpenAI and led Tesla's AI team, and it addresses a real, common friction point: sometimes you know a lot about a problem, but organizing that knowledge into a clean written prompt takes more effort than actually solving the problem would. The core insight is simple and worth sitting with: the AI doesn't need a perfectly worded prompt. It needs enough of the right context. And for a lot of people, talking is a much lower-friction way to get that context out of your head than typing. 📜 The Announcement 📜 Karpathy posted the technique directly on X on July 21: "One pattern I find useful for working with LLMs is a nice long ramble session. Sometimes the LLM needs more bits to understand what you're trying to achieve, but you're too lazy to type them. In these cases I like to lean back, switch to /voice and just ramble for like 10 minutes, total mess, anything goes, full stream of consciousness." He describes flagging the shift upfront, sometimes opening with something like "switching to speech recognition sorry for any typos," so the model knows to expect a rougher, less polished input than usual. He also notes he sometimes turns the session into a short back-and-forth interview rather than a single monologue. The key observation from his own experience: "I find that the LLMs are somehow very good at reconstructing long incoherent rambles and often their echo of your own tangle of thoughts comes out quite a bit cleaner than what you started with. The result is that you improve the mind meld and have to correct things less from that point on."

🧠 The AI Thought Partner, What It Is and Why You Need One
Most people are still using AI like a tool. Ask a question. Get an answer. Move on. That is useful, but it is also limited. Because one of the biggest advantages of AI is not just that it can produce content fast. It is that it can help people think better, decide faster, and work through ideas without getting stuck in their own head. That is what an AI thought partner really is. Not just a machine that gives outputs. A partner that helps sharpen thinking. This matters because a lot of modern work slows down long before execution. People get stuck trying to clarify ideas, organize messy thoughts, challenge assumptions, pressure-test decisions, or figure out the next best move. The bottleneck is often not effort. It is thinking friction. And that friction costs time. That is where an AI thought partner becomes powerful. It can help turn vague ideas into clear direction. It can help break down a problem when everything feels too big. It can help generate options, compare angles, surface blind spots, and speed up decision-making. Not by replacing human judgment, but by accelerating the process of getting to better judgment. That is the difference. Most people think of AI as a writing assistant, research helper, or productivity tool. And yes, it can do all of that. But the deeper value is in using it as a thinking companion, something that helps refine ideas before they become plans, content, offers, strategies, or decisions. That is why this is urgent. Because the people getting the most from AI are not just asking it to do tasks. They are using it to improve the quality and speed of their thinking. They are bringing it rough ideas, half-formed plans, messy notes, questions they cannot quite articulate yet, and problems they need help untangling. They are using AI to create clarity faster. And clarity changes everything. It reduces time-to-decision. It shortens time-to-first-draft. It lowers rework. It helps people move before overthinking turns into delay.

I'm definitely a collaboration kind of person, so I think it's awesome to be able to bounce ideas off of and have a "back and forth" to make me think about stuff differently and hopefully spur more ideas! I am definitely excited about this event!

I don't own a business, but I'd like to some day. I don't even know what I would want it to be, but I've followed Tony for quite a while now. I'm excited to learn about AI and how it can help me. I definitely don't want to be left behind!

@Michel Abel Toledo Right now I am a research and development chemist. Things in the science and technology world interest me, but so does providing service for people as I worked in food and healthcare for years. I'm just looking for something more flexible, fulfilling, and that I feel more in control of my life.
Checking in 😅
I joined without knowing what I’m going to use the AI for, but I’m sure it will be helpful, glad to be here.

Same here, but I'm hoping it becomes clear and apparent as this thing goes on
