Timely video, @Nate Herk! One of my clients is trying to refactor a 30-year-old codebase using Claude, Cursor, and Co-Pilot. So far, the results have been disappointing, so I wondered if Gemini's new vector file storage system might help. When I asked Gemini about this, I got a surprising answer: large, fragmented, outdated codebases don't lend themselves to RAG techniques. The siloed nature of the code produces equally siloed vector stores, which limits effectiveness. Instead, Gemini suggested that larger context windows are the better approach. For codebases under 50,000 lines, you can load everything into memory at once, allowing the model to see all the interdependencies simultaneously. This is where Gemini 3 shines with its 2 million token context window—significantly larger than what Claude or OpenAI currently offer.
