video editor
Hi there. Which video editor app you recommend for beginners? I am thinking of Davinci.

Davinci might be a good choice, but my laptops were not powerful enough for it. I have been Using Canva for most of my videos, but recently switched to Shotcut. The switch was fairly easy and I can edit faster now.

@Loizos Prastitis Canva made some changes to the user interface and way of working. It made it harder for me to do precise editing, so I ended up fine tuning the results after uploading them to YouTube using the YouTube editor. Shotcut allows me to work and tune at frame level. I am sure many others can do that as well. Shotcut is open source, so free to use, doesn't demand a very strong PC and there are many tutorials available on YouTube.
My switch from Canva Pro to Shotcut
A few weeks ago, after an update from Canva, I noticed that it took me more time to edit my videos. Therefore I started looking at alternatives. DaVinci Resolve turned out to be too heavy for my laptops, so I tried Shotcut. So far, I am very pleased with the results. The editing takes me less time and I am learning a lot of new things. Following Alexa's 30-day challenge, I decided to create a short in Shotcut. The goal is to reach a new audience and convince them to watch the long form videos on one of my favorite topics. I could not link to a playlist directly, but have linked to the first video of the playlist and provided a link to the playlist in the pinned comment. Of course, I hope this will work as planned, but I think this video is already a winner given that I managed to make using a new to me video editing software.

@Neppi Stenbäck To be honest, it is very slow. I am not promoting it enough probably. On the other hand, I don't want to ask people to like, subscribe and become a member. I have 6 members at the moment, so it is not zero, but could be better. I might still setup my own membership space. I have thought about Swarm, but Discourse (not the same as Discord) might be better for what I have in mind. I am currently focused on getting to the 4000 watch/viewing hours milestone and mastering Shotcut.

@Mimi Negron Thanks! 😊
YouTube shorts update! 🎉
I did it!!!! I created three shorts that link back to one long form video. I’m quite pleased with myself 😊. I’m sure it’s not perfect and I still have a lot to learn but I tried to put into practice the things I’ve learned. My long form video went live this morning (Friday). I have my three shorts scheduled to go out Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Nice! I am currently working on a short that I want to link to a playlist. If all goes well it brings in new viewers and subscribers that can boost the watch hours.
1,000 Subscribers!
This achievement might as well be the golden play button it feels so amazing! 1,000 people got value from something I said, 1,000 people spent their most treasured commodity, time, to watch my videos and 1,000 people connected with me on some level - how frickin' awesome is that?! I'm now going to celebrate by editing my next video🤣

Congratulations! Keep going for those watch hours.
Changing the title of a video
This is something I have not done a lot, so I am not sure about the effect on the algorithm, but after Alexa's video today, I did it anyway. I published the video as a members-only video on Saturday for early access. Yesterday I made it public and had 400+ views (for context: the channel has 1500+ subscribers). The original title was: "How to save money when buying parts to upgrade your Miata". I changed that to: "Don't waste money when buying parts to upgrade your Miata". The goal was to give it more tension and spark curiosity. The Thumbnail remained unchanged, because I think it was fine already. It has only 4 words and survived the readability test when reducing it to a 120px width, which is the size when people scroll on their mobile phone. Please let me know what your experience is with changing the title after first publication, what you think of the title change and my thumbnail.

@Lee Ann Price performance is always hard to predict. I will have a look at an underperforming video to determine if I can improve the title and thumbnail. In this case the title and thumbnail seem to work, The initial hook might be okay, but I could not keep my viewers on board. The average watch time is just below 3 minutes, whereas the video is over 14 minutes. Nevertheless I am happy with the viewing hours and additional subscribers the video reached so far.
