I’m still pushing through the voice in my head that tells me to stay small and keep quiet.
That message landed in my inbox this week. And the truth is: "everyone" has that voice. Even people who are skilled, experienced, visible! That voice doesn’t mean you’re insecure. It doesn’t mean you’re not ready. It doesn’t mean you’re failing. It’s a protection mechanism. Our brain is wired for safety first. Standing out, speaking up, taking responsibility — those things create uncertainty. So the brain steps in and says: - Don’t rock the boat - Stay within the lines - Keep your head down Not because it’s right. Because it feels safer. What I see over and over again in leadership, careers, and growth: 👉 That voice gets louder exactly when someone is growing. When the next level asks for more visibility, ownership, or presence. The mistake most people make is trying to silence that voice. A better approach: - Notice it - Name it - Don’t let it decide The voice can exist. You still choose how you act. That’s what real self‑control looks like: not reacting automatically, but staying present and choosing behaviour that matches where you’re going — not what feels safest in the moment. Takeaway: If that voice shows up, it’s rarely a stop sign. More often, it’s proof that you’re doing something that actually matters. Don’t stay small to feel safe. Grow — calmly, consciously, and on purpose. — Clarity → direction → action. That’s how momentum is built. When does that voice show up for you ?

Great information @Hilbert Monsuur. This voice shows up for me whenever I take a step towards a brighter future. It tells me that I have enough to be satisfied and now am being greedy. If any of that thought sinks in, my body just stops- a wave of exhaustion comes over me. I’m learning to let the wave pass and take back my agency. Posts like this are very helpful.
The Kind of Leadership No One Taught Us-Until Now
Most leadership training teaches you how to manage others. How to run a team. How to lead a project. But very few people were ever taught how to lead themselves. How to respond when things get intense. How to stay grounded after a confrontational conversation. How to choose from your core instead of reacting from an old wound. How to shift your inner state instead of being taken hostage by it. That’s the leadership that actually changes your life — and your business. And that’s what this post is about. 1. Emotional Mastery: Not Control, but Regulation We’re raised to control emotions: - “Stay calm.” - “Don’t cry.” - “Don’t get angry.” So we learn to put a lid on the boiling pot.It works short‑term. But what you don’t feel
doesn’t disappear. It settles in your body, your jaw, your breath. Regulation is different. It means you can stay present with what rises — without drowning in it.Your emotion becomes information instead of a threat. This is not weakness. It’s real inner leadership. 👉 Try this: The 5‑Second Reset Stop → hand on chest → 1 slow breath → “What exactly do I feel?”Don’t fix. Don’t suppress. Just witness. That alone changes your state. 2. The Subconscious: The Real Driver Behind Your Behavior Most people think they make conscious choices. But a huge part of daily behavior is driven by old survival patterns: - saying yes when you mean no - guilt when you rest - shrinking in groups - tying self‑worth to performance These patterns are not “your personality.”They were strategies your system learned to feel safe. You can understand them logically
and still repeat them. Because the pattern doesn’t live in your thinking — it lives deeper. Working with the subconscious (through hypnotherapy, deep relaxation work, or nervous‑system‑based coaching) allows you to rewrite the pattern from the inside out. Not by talking about it.But by giving your system a new experience of safety. Suddenly the old reaction has less grip. 3. Your Nervous System: The Silent Engine of Your Leadership

I've been on a medical leave for two years now, because I did not feel in alignment with my true self and it manifested as pain and cognitive disfunction. My nervous system is still disregulated. I'm taking steps in the right direction to live in alignment, but it's a long path and requires constant effort. Somewhere along the way, I lost faith in myself and my ability to perform the skills I've learned in my 50 years on this planet. I joined this group to rebuild that element of my life before I return to my job in September with a new perspective on life.

@Hilbert Monsuur great tips. I use these regularly. I also started a YouTube channel last year and have been learning about content creation and building a community. This has showed me objectively that I can do difficult things and that there are opportunities for growth out there.

Using YouTube to find my voice and use the knowledge and experiences I have to help Gen-X move from survival to a life of integrity and optimism.
