Let's make better choices this week. I often end up asking people, who controls you? Is it you that controls you? Or are you just floating through space and time, observing yourself do things? When you see that item that has you by the tongue, are you even able to make a decision or is it just automatic. Do you think about denying yourself or do you willfully go along with whatever temptation crosses your senses? We often categorize things like Alcohol, Smoking, and other substance use into a forbidden drug category. We emphasize the importance of staying away from these things, so our brain is more disciplined around it. I propose we put sugar in the same category in our mind. Cake, candy, ice cream, cinnamon rolls, sugary sodas and drinks. I often hear people say "It is just one, its not going to hurt." Yes my drug addict friends said the same thing to me at the age of 14 after summer school one day. This is often the language used by an addicted person. It is language used to justify the decision and guilt someone into making a bad decision as well which helps justify your own bad decision. Discipline is not easy. If it was, everyone would be doing it. If it was easy, the reward wouldn't be worth it. We need to remember the first temptation that brought sin into the world was a food. Food should be taken with as much reverence, respect, and importance as any detrimental drug. Choose life. Choose better. One choice at a time. Earn your willpower back. Don't allow the enemy to steal it from you. Give it to God.
