Scams
Good morning everyone. I am sure everyone is seeing the scams that are going around for notaries and wedding officiants. I am not sure if anyone posted it on here but I wanted everyone to be aware. The other day I received 5 and 4 of which were through Find a Notary and 1 was through text message. Yesterday I received more through email. This is getting to be insane. The message starts out by requesting notarizations with very little information to pull you in. Once you reply they then will tell you they want that zoom call. Please don't fall for it. Someone on one of the notary FB groups did and she got a virus that wiped out everything. I am not sure what we can do as they seem legit and no one wants to pass up a job. How many others have experienced this?

The solution would be to agree to a zoom call but you supply the link and time. I have this setup on my calendar now. Maybe this is why I have not been targeted.
The $100 this notary chose to walk away from
We have a signing set for tomorrow at 7 AM Pacific. At first the notary did the right things. She called to confirm the appointment, she emailed us to request docs, she followed up 👏🏻 The escrow officer said they'd be uploaded during the day. We pushed too, all Sunday. At 5:28 PM she wrote: "Please remove me from this signing due to documents not being uploaded." At 6:03 PM, the documents came in. For a 7 AM appointment. About 12 hours of notice. And she still said no. It's now 9:20 PM Eastern and I'm STILL looking for a notary to cover this closing. I get it, we all want documents on time, and waiting on a weekend is frustrating. That part is real. But docs at 6 PM for a 7 AM signing is workable. You have the whole evening to print, review and prepare. Delays are part of this business, not the exception. And honestly? As a notary, I would rather earn my $100 than walk away with NOTHING simply because I don't feel like doing the transaction. What really gets me is the unfairness of it. So many new notaries are dying for assignments, ready to show up and do the work, while others turn down closings out of pure caprice. We are a team. The title company, the signing service, the notary, we are all moving the same transaction to the closing table. When one piece pulls out at the last minute over a delay that was already fixed, everyone scrambles. Reasonable flexibility is one of the most valuable things you can offer. It's what separates a vendor from a partner. The notaries I call first are not the cheapest or the closest. They are the ones who solve problems with me, instead of handing them back. Be that notary 💪🏻

Very sad to hear. I learned early on that things don't happen on time. The notary did not want to get up early. A grateful notary is always going to be the best choice and the loser is the seasoned notary who may not have an opportunity again.
Quick question for the community.
You're at the signing table. The borrower points to a line in the documents and asks: "Should I be signing this?" What is the exact sentence that comes out of your mouth next? A couple of questions for you: 1. What is your go to response when a borrower asks what a document means or whether they should sign it? 2. Have you ever caught yourself almost answering before realizing you were getting too close to legal advice? 3. Drop your response below. I'll share mine later this week, along with the exact script I teach.

Yes if you want your loan to close but if you need to get clarity you can call your loan officer.
📦 A scheduling lesson that doesn't get talked about enough...
A notary completed our signing on time, but had another appointment afterward that ran longer than expected. By the time she finished, she let us know she would no longer be able to make the FedEx cutoff. The challenge wasn't the signing itself. The challenge was scheduling so tightly that there was no room for delays. As we all know, signings don't always go as planned. Borrowers have questions, traffic happens, documents need attention, and appointments can run over. When accepting multiple appointments in a day, are you building enough buffer time between them?

I am 2 blocks from a fedex office and when I was doing loan signings I would go there throughout the day. Knowing your timing is critical. I have actually turned down work because I would not be able to make cutoff.
📦 Quick Poll.
You have a Buyer Package scheduled for 3:30 PM. No delays were reported. The last FedEx pickup in your area is 7:30 PM. Do you believe that's enough time to complete the signing, scan the documents, and make the drop-off on time? Let's see where everyone stands on this one.

Yes plenty of time however you as the notary need to know your schedule and timing if you plan on taking other jobs. Some notaries over extend themselves. @Nakia Woodson You must have fast signers. Everything always takes me an hour. It must be a CA thing. @Randie Ervin If it takes an hour to scanback you should think about getting a faster scanner.
