Album for Specific Mood?
Is there an album you only really listen to when you’re in a very, very specific mood? Like, any other time feels like the wrong time if you’re not in that mood? Kind of like an anchor? For me, Radiohead’s The Bends is the album, and it surprises me because I’m a casual Radiohead fan, but that album was there for me and is still is. Anyone else with that kind of surprise affection?

I have found that Transatlanticism by Death Cab is the perfect album to listen to when I am walking around a new city. It feels like a guidebook, a soundtrack, a path that leads me to where I need to be. And inevitably near the end of the album I find myself at some bar with a good vibe and local beers and it all works out.
Listening Habits
Curious how people are actually listening right now. I play music for people in a room, in a box, sometimes in my own home. When you put on new music, are you Walking? Driving? Cooking? Lying on the floor?? At work with one earbud in. There’s no wrong answer. Just interested in the habits.

This is a good question and I am interested in all the answers. I love listening in a number of places. I listen to music in my car. I listen while walking my dog in the morning and evening (though that switches between music and podcasts). I listen sometimes when cooking. In the summer I usually have music playing while relaxing in the back yard. I certainly have music playing when doing yard work and it is essential when I am on a long bike ride ; not sure I can make it through STP without tunes. One place I CANNOT listen to music anymore is when I am sitting at my desk working. I get caught up in the songs and either cannot get work done or keep skipping back to the start of a song because I lost track while concentrating on work. When I am doing more manual labor at a site out of town, I'll have it playing in headphones and that works well. I design and install AV / IT systems and when I am focusing on building a patch bay or installing amplifiers or whatever then it does help to listen to music. And when I am working in Europe I can hear all the KEXP DJs I miss when I am in the US (shout out DJ Abbie) and that is fun.

I do have a turntable in the living room and I can pump the vinyl all through the house and in the backyard. But I don't really sit back and focus on new music in a "listening room" kind of thing anymore. Certainly not as much as when I was younger. My wife is just not that interested in me sitting in the living room listening to an album. We always seem to be doing something that ranks higher in the general family rating system.
21-30
21-Blondshell - If You Asked For A Picture 22- Momma - Welcome to My Blue Sky 23-Heartworms - Glutton for Punishment 24-Shaki Tavi - Minor Slip 25-The Hives - The Hives Forever Forever The Hives 26-Preoccupations - Ill At Ease 27-Annahstasia - Tether 28-SONS - Hallo 29-Packaging - Running Through The Airport 30- Witch Post - Beast When I got the stats on what I played. most this year, this window of records really surprised me. I love that. Some of it is because they were from earlier in the year but others like Sons, Preoccupations and Witch Post I was reminded JUST how great they were. Being a DJ at KEXP it is a good problem to have to forget all the records you loved all year. The Annahstasia is STUNNING, the Hives, ROCKING, the Heartworms GOTHY and don't get me started on Blondshell AND their Smooch performance this year as well as Packaging. Isn't it GREAT to see Seattle bands just always be there in the most played, most loved lists of people. I blame the rain.

Fav Band You Can't See live
What's a favorite band that you weren't able to see live? There has to be some rules on this one, so here we go: - You must have been able to see them at some point, but didn't, for whatever reason - There's no likely way for you to see them live in the future, for whatever reason For me, there was a chance I could have seen Concrete Blonde play in New Mexico, but I only found out about the concert the day before, and there was no way I would have been able to make it up to the show never mind getting tickets. Also for me, there's bands I thought I'd never see which I've now seen four or five times, and bands that felt like they were right there which I never caught.

Free Ticket - Skating Polly, Nina Nastasia and Black Ends at Vera Thursday
Hi music pals. I have a ticket to The Vera Project show this Thursday. It's Skating Polly, Nina Nastasia and Black Ends. A killer show that I unfortunately have to miss as I will be out of town. I don't want the ticket to go to waste. If you want to go, DM me and I can transfer the Dice ticket to you. You'll need a Dice account but that's easy and free and a great app for live music events. https://www.skatingpolly.com https://ninanastasiaofficial.com https://gunkpop.com
