As an accordionist, a goal of mine is develop something of my own, write my own music and songs, etc.. for my own sake. I focus on Serbian music, but occasionally I will want to play an Irish song or hear someone play merengue and wish I could play too, just for a second. The advantages and disadvantages of accordions influence style as much as any other factor as well… I don’t lack confidence though. This is kind of open ended, and I am sure some of you might have felt the same. I don't have an exact question, I think I feel a little lost. Could anyone give me a diagnosis? How do you guys feel? Please, share your thoughts and experience

Here is a video of me playing a song with ornaments I’ve learned mainly from Serbian kolos. Maybe you recognize it, but I first heard this as lambada, then llorando de fue, then dance the night away ~ it is a great melody, and I had fun experimenting with it . “Balkanization” is a term I would prefer not to use; it is far too much of a generalization, thus I would argue it encourages a misunderstanding of diverse cultures and musical styles spread across many many peoples. Perhaps this isnt the place to discuss, but because we are in a class setting, I think it is worth noting.
