Finished Season
We just finished our first Varsity girls season running lock left. It helped us over achieve. We were co- district champions and had no business being there. It was very advantageous to us. Our JV went 16-3 running it. Here are some notable stats from the season for our varsity girls. Our Lock had 140 steals in 23 games played with 136 deflections. As a team we forced 422 turnovers and had 371 steals.
Match up zone lock left wanting to run some type of Junk out of it.
Playing Lock Left out of Match up Zone. Looks like a 1-2-2/1-3-1 depending on where the match up for each position is. Using the names and positions. But one Player is always the Gap, one the wolf etc. Teaching them jobs. Anyone else doing this? and has anyone tried to run a junk out of it. I watched the KISS and 2 but we are going to play a team who only has 1 Stud and I don't want to waste another defender on anyone else. Anyone else have any experience?

We are strictly zone. We have extended it and put in the box look last 2 games. Forced 30 turnovers and 27 turnovers
“Diamond & 1” with LL principles
Hello, everyone. This is our 2nd season running LL. There is no denying that it works. I’ve been trying to get our other coaches at our school to run it. They are finally trying to install it because our Varsity Girls are now 11-2. We have held teams to an average of only 20 points a game. We have also been running a “Diamond & 1” (like a Box & 1) with LL principles. Last night, we were able to slow down a very good PG but she still ended up with 17 points & they scored the most any team has scored on us this season which was 38 (in which I know it’s not much). We had horrible shooting night too and ended up losing by 11. Does anyone have any tips to help us improve this defense?

Julio who do you make the "1" are you using your Wolf? With lock up top, gap and wall one side and bear in middle??
Lock Left for 6th and 7th grade girls.
Looking at putting in lock left for youth league girls basketball, want to sell out to it. Does anyone use it at this age, also do you use it man or zone? I was looking and thinking using it as 1-2-2 so kids can play roles and I'm not having kids go out on perimeter I don't want. Any help would be appreciated.

We played it man to man with middle school teams. In 6th and 7th league I used the zone. Wolf, gap, lock, wall, bear. It allowed me to play all 11 of the kids on my team by giving them assignments. Some kids just can’t go out and play way out on the perimeter but asking them to play behind the bear on one side and cover the corner where the ball rarely goes really allowed me to play some lesser mobile kids. Also I had a player with a disability in her legs but she was a heck of a bear. We pressed out of it full court entire game. We competed with teams that were better than us and won a couple games we shouldn’t just because the other team was miserable. Last game we won to make championship we forced 15+ walks. I just gave every kids a job in it and subbed based on defense. My player who was starting wolf would move to gap when I subbed in a new girl who was fresh to play wolf. Kids had a lot of fun
