A good day after a bad day
I had a whole weekend off this weekend, which doesn't happen often! So I got to spend some much needed quality time with Mr Kipps. The beautiful photo I took on Saturday. Horse people will recognise that this is a very tense horse. I took him for a lovely walk around on the property where he lives and well, it wasn't lovely, or a walk 🫣 Bucking, rearing, cantering around me, spooking and nipping all happened within this 10 minute walk. This is NOT usual behaviour for Kippy. However, I had recently started him back on fibre mash because he wasn't eating his feeds. So I decided after making it back to the field alive (only just), I would stop the fibre mash. 24h later I took him for an actual lovely walk around (video). Saturday was the first time in nearly 2 years of knowing him, my horse genuinely scared me. He wasn't being aggressive towards me, he was communicating. So it was important for me to take him out again on Sunday so I knew I could trust him again. And the explosive behaviour, I think is a soy sensitivity and/or potential ulcers, so I will be doing further investigations.

Glad you worked out what had him out of sorts. So easy to miss food related issues with our animals.

@Gemma Sheppard I know it's more difficult with horses. Hope you find a solution soon.
Learning Self Trust
Before our Learning Self Trust session this week… Caring deeply for animals often comes with a lot of second-guessing. Just out of curiosity: What’s one thing you tend to doubt yourself about when it comes to animals? For me it is definitely nutrition. Making sure my animals are getting good quality food that I can also afford. I've bought the most expensive and it is not always the best 🫣 How about you? Can you think of a recent time you've had self-doubt with your animals?

My self doubt is does my dog 'like' me? He is definitely his Dad's dog. Arthur gets so excited when his Dad comes home, if his Dad is getting his outdoor clothes on and wants to go everywhere with him. He will lay for hours in the front window watching for Dad to come home. Yet I'm the one he comes to for food, being let out, brings his ball in evening and stays near to me at night. He's excited for our walks in the morning but I still think he's only putting up with me. I know this comes from the fact that Arthur's spent 24/7 with his dad whilst I was working full time so now I'm at home full time it's a change in routine for Arthur being with me but I sometimes feel I'm just not enough....... 🤷‍♀️

@Gemma Sheppard I know he does like me and will protect me in a heartbeat. That's a great reflection. I'll give it a go! 🙂

Sorry I can't make tomorrow. I will hopefully make one of these very soon. Xx
Noticing my grief
I've mentioned before that Nelly isn't a particularly tactile dog. He will usually only get on the bed with me if he's sick or if I'm sick. Experiencing a family bereavement this week has meant a lot of tears and Nelly has held space for me so well. He has been quietly choosing to come and sit next to me, which feels like such a privilege and incredibly comforting ❤️

So sorry for your loss. 🫂 Nelly is such a good boy. 💙 I've found that all my dogs have been so intuitive during hard times and respond to my emotions with exactly the right level of comfort. We are so lucky to have animals in our lives.

@Gemma Sheppard totally agree. Arthur very often matches energy and state with me and my husband.
Rescheduled calls
Hi everyone, I'm going to be taking this week off as I'm saying goodbye to my nanny today. I've moved the Q&A call to next Tuesday at 5pm and I've cancelled this Sunday's coffee chat x
