@Jared Latigo they are jersey giant and the gray is a zombie mix. Both are gentlemen.
How’s the weather where you are?
We got 14 eggs for the first time in forever the other day. Now getting a decent amount since the weather has warmed a tad. Much better than the 1-2 we were getting! Def looking forward to more spring weather and it’s warming up quick here in Texas. Hope you’re all starting to see some spring come your way!

I'm in SW PA the past few days have been 45 to 54. Monday March 2 is gonna be 40 and snow. So tired of snow and i think my chickens are too.
At what point did you realize chickens weren’t just a hobby anymore? 😅
Curious what you think and what you believe got you to the place you are now.

I ordered 10 California White chicks, four years ago. I have had many chickens since then. Sadly I only have 3 original girls. I have a total of 16 hens and 3 roosters. I plan on expanding more hens as the weather gets warmer.
Rat/Mice Proofing Coops
When I designed my large 16ft by 8ft (twin 8ft x 8ft with a shared middle wall) for deep bedding and lots of ventilation I thought I had the rat problem solved with having the coops clad with tin. Well... bad news. only one of the coops is rat proof. One I had to clad three 4x4's with tin corners to make it impossible for the rats to climb. The final building corners are going on this coming Monday. The other 8ft x 12ft coop is mostly rat proof but it has a 4ft by 8ft storage area which they've gotten into and then chewed thru the 1/4 inch ply into the coop. I am planning on cladding the inside of the storage area with tin to rat proof. Wondering is there is anything else I can do? Also best way to clean up the mess they leave to make it less toxic for chickens... does anyone know?

@Christopher Bauer I like snakes I usually just pick them up and move them away from the eggs. Last one I moved was about 4 foot long.

@Ann Brazzell Other than a draft free coop, I do nothing. Although my girls and roosters don't like the deep snow, they like being out and about.
