Where's the biggest time drain in your business?
Hey everyone, I'm looking for a few trade businesses to have a quick chat on where they're at with the operational side of things and where they wish they could shave down manual admin to spent more time on actually getting through jobs. If you're running a construction or trade business and takeoffs, quoting or admin feel like they're eating your time, i'd love to hear what specific pain points you're trying to reduce in your current setup. Drop a comment or DM me if you're keen to chat. And if you want to stay in the loop with what i'm building, mailing list is here https://rignite.com.au/ Cheers, James

Hi Joe. Feel free to reach out to me at james@rignite.com.au - I'd be keen to hear some of the issues you are facing and what solutions AI could really provide here.
Intro: looking at bottlenecks in estimating & takeoffs
Hey everyone, Iโ€™m James, based in Sydney. Over the last little while Iโ€™ve been deep in the weeds on how residential contractors actually do their estimating/quoting and takeoffs day to day. The more people I talk to, the more it seems like this part of the business is a massive bottleneck. Some of the patterns I keep hearing: - Nights and weekends lost measuring off PDFs just to get a quote out the door - Drawings changing and having to redo big chunks of work from scratch - Numbers getting moved from plans to spreadsheets to BOQs, and just hoping there isnโ€™t a fatโ€‘finger mistake in there somewhere Iโ€™m currently working on an automation to streamline a lot of this and cut down the grunt work. Not here to pitch or drop links mainly keen to sanity-check what Iโ€™m doing against what youโ€™re actually dealing with on the ground. So Iโ€™m curious: whatโ€™s the most broken or frustrating part of your current takeoff / quoting workflow? Keen to learn from you guys and happy to share what Iโ€™m seeing as well. Cheers, James

Great feedback Sam! I like what you brought up around obtaining fresh quotes from subbies of every trade. Right now I'm trialing the live email tracker, which watches email chains between subbies, and regularly updates their price whether it's rates or LS. So far, so good, and a handy way to pass it through to the final quote. For the additional items that you mentioned around unknown conditions, those are usually factored into margins. I don't like the idea of giving AI the ability to do everything. What i am working on is a system that cuts down a vast portion of admin nightmares that contractors are faced with on the weekly. Meaning they can spend more time getting the nitty-gritty right, such as site specific risks and adding their risk allowance in, whilst the automation focuses on the straight to the point items that still take contractors hours to filter through.

@Diego Fernandez Nice one! I've just launched my landing page now for a similar service at https://rignite.com.au/ Super keen to start deploying it out!

Hey Tim, I have an engineering background and have been very interested in seeing how AI can be beneficial in the construction sector. For the past year, I have been experimenting with building my own automation systems to take the load off trades doing heavy admin tasks. One of the things I've noticed is that AI is not in a position to replace the one preparing the quote/estimate, but it does a great job in reducing the stress and taking off the heavy lifting involved in manual take-offs. I now have a working SaaS + AI automation system that is tailored for each user, that utilises AI where it has it's strength, allowing for the human user to reduce error, and copious amounts of time spent doing manual tasks. Your content has been a great help in guiding me in the direction of what works well and what doesn't, and i look forward to delving into even more!

@Tim Fairley Looking to film a loom video on it this week. At the moment I have it working for myself with some oAuth restrictions currently in place. Once I've put that together I'll send it across!
