5 Out Drive & Space
Coaches - Here is a video of our high school girls basketball team running the 5 Out Drive & Space offense in Year 2 of the system. We rely heavily on our transition attack, Rose Series, and a splash of Princeton to create advantages. Some of our favorite offensive concepts include: Pass Through Single Gaps, Attack Double/Triple Gaps, Playing Off The Catch (.5), & Down-Up-Overs amongst others. I am a visual learner, so hopefully this helps out anyone interested in learning more about this style of play. I would definitely consider sliding over into the paid community to learn more about the Drive & Space (& Race & Space) offense from Mark & Tyler. We learned directly from the source @Mark Cascio and we absolutely love coaching it. Let me know what questions/comments you have below on the clips. Our season recently ended, so I would love to connect & talk hoops to continue finding ways to improve our attack into the summer & next year.

@R Y Happy to talk Drive & Space any time. Some sticky language and concepts that help us generate ball speed: 🏀 Nobody stops the ball from moving 🏀 Pass to the first open player 🏀 It can’t always be my turn 🏀 Pass through single gaps 🏀 Drive-Pass Option 🏀 2 Out 🏀 Down-Up-Over

@David Bartsch We do have a program identify and style of play document as well as an offensive philosophy with everything in it. Would not feel comfortable sharing that, but is there anything in particular you have a question about? Happy to talk hoops!
5-Out Triggers
We are moving from 4-out to 5-out. I’ve never taught 5-out Drive and Space. What are other triggers vs a neutral defense in 5-out other than slot to slot triggers? We teach Rose first and have triggers for bounce outs, but I’m curious what else is out there for 5-out. Thanks!

Fan Return is highly recommended and a smooth connector. You can do anything, but you can't do everything. Keep it simple. Really like @Ben Relle idea of DHO triggering Stretch to fill nail. I would say one more conceptual trigger to go along with Rose & Bounce Outs would keep a versatile arsenal of a fastball, curveball, and slider. Any more than that, you might not get really good at any of them.

@Rich Cross 100%. It is a perfect fit IMO.
Style of Play 2024/25
Coaches, Here is a link to video of our High School Boys Basketball team running 4-Out Drive & Space. We rely on transition, Rose Series, Low Post Series, and some Princeton (Split action). These clips don't do justice to the Dominoes we were able to create throughout the year and playing with advantage. We have a lot to learn, but had success while slowly beginning to add Drive and Space concepts. Let me know if anyone has questions! https://share.qwikcut.com/67d7821fd26d8bc4696438d1/%20Everest%20Basketball%20Style%20of%20Play%2024%2F25

This looks fantastic Coach! Great work! 🔥
Fan Return
In watching @Jake Nannen Style of Play video, he had a nice trigger out of Fan Return. What are favorite actions out of Fan Return from 5-out alignment? We would set a ghost screen this past year, so return wasn't built in with a trigger.

@Rich Cross my personal favorite is Fan Return triggering Princeton Chin. Back screen + flare screen from the strong cutter! Here is a diagram of how we could flow into that from 5 Out. ⬇️
Maintaining Space
What are the most effective ways you coaches have been able to teach how to maintain space within a possession? What are teaching points / language, SSGs, and other ways that have been most effective for you?

Have you established your dribble penetration reaction rules? This could help you maintain space and reshape. IF the ball is being driven at me, THEN....IF the ball is being driven away from me, THEN.....If I kick out to a teammate, THEN.... Down-Up-Over is a terrific passing sequence when the ball is in the corner or paint you could use to help you flow back into Rose. For us, any pass across the floor = a Rose Series option. Drive-Pass Option 50/50 is also a concept you could emphasize off the catch. Sometimes, I need to pass through a single gap and cut for a teammate. It can't always be my turn to attack. If we get dribble weavish it is usually because our Stretch is not holding space long enough, or we drive it off every catch multiple times in a row. Getting off the rails and driving middle could help you rebalance the floor. We like to play a lot of 3v3 & 4v4 SABA SSGs to help work on our penetration reaction rules in a live setting. Hope this helps a bit!
