Style of Play 2024/25
Coaches, Here is a link to video of our High School Boys Basketball team running 4-Out Drive & Space. We rely on transition, Rose Series, Low Post Series, and some Princeton (Split action). These clips don't do justice to the Dominoes we were able to create throughout the year and playing with advantage. We have a lot to learn, but had success while slowly beginning to add Drive and Space concepts. Let me know if anyone has questions! https://share.qwikcut.com/67d7821fd26d8bc4696438d1/%20Everest%20Basketball%20Style%20of%20Play%2024%2F25

@Jake Lower I will get back to you on this coach

@Jake Lower @Grant Bland I owed you this information earlier. Here is a video of the action we ran when the ball went into the post. We didn’t get much off the action, but it gave our post room to operate and limit the help. I’m actually shifting away from this next year, but hopefully this helps give you a visual: https://youtu.be/F6udLlEYPHc?si=IakuuseUPJtL2Sk8
Point Actions in Drive & Space
When moving the Stretch to the nail, is it possible to run some of the Point actions like Away and Over? Or does it just set up better for the Chin actions.

I think it’s definitely possible, but it depends what triggers your stretch to the nail.
Youth Camp
@Tyler Coston asked @Mark Cascio on the Hours: ā€œYouth development for an entire season - 1) you can either play no games and focus on skill development / fundamentals 2) you can only play games and zero skill work?ā€ Mark said games of course because he will quit if it’s the first option šŸ˜‚ My question: how would you handle a 3-5 day youth camp? I’ve fallen into the stations / drills camp with scrimmaging at the end, but we all know every kid wants to play! Ultimately, we want their joy for the game to grow and to be excited to comeback the next day or next year’s camp. Curious if anyone has templates or ideas for how they run camps with a more games based approach?

Using the Barkley 😤
Barkleys have been a hot topic recently in our paid community so here’s a quick breakdown of how we teach it and why it matters! This is one of my favourite skills - it improves control & vision, decreases turnovers, and is useful for ALL players. 🧠 When to Barkley: - Neutralized below the elbow - Slower drivers - Attacking a switch or mismatch šŸ”‘ Teaching Points: 1. Change of Pace: Start with a hard, genuine drive—don’t play for the Barkley. Then, slow down and transfer the ball to your off-hand (e.g. right-hand drive into left-hand Barkley). 2. Feel the D: Don’t pre-determine your move. Instead, use the dribble to feel whether you can beat your defender to the midline. 3. Reads from the Midline: If you can get middle āž rise up for a soft jumper or jump hook If you feel chest āž step through If you’re cut off middle āž drop step for a 45-degree angle finish šŸ“ Why Midline Matters: Attacking toward the middle creates better finishing angles and forces defenders to make harder decisions. We want feet leaving the floor with purpose, not pre-set moves. šŸ’” Live Drill Progressions: - Play "either-or": Finish off one foot if there's an advantage. If not, Barkley. - Every 1-on-1 should include protection plans so players learn how to protect space and get quality shots—not just chuck tough ones. šŸ—£ļø The "post" isn’t just for bigs. It’s a place of attack—and every player should be equipped to operate there. More on this and other protection plans in our new Player Development Course exclusive to members! This is great! I was fortunate to have a conversation with Coach Mackenzie Novak (daughter of the great offensive mind, Doug Novak) and when we discussed Barkley's, she mentioned the importance of giving players a destination. Mark says, "Barkley below the block." I think the "either-or" constraint in this SSG is helpful, but the language of the destination is just as useful. Especially if a player gets pushed outside the lane on a drive, the destination can trigger the protection plan.
