Mega back door Roth
I have a single member LLC pass through umbrella that holds all my individual STR LLCs. Can I pay myself as an employee so that I can contribute 72k after tax and do a mega back door Roth? Is it true I don’t need a C or S corp to do this? A friend does this using mysolo401k.net. He says I have to pay payroll taxes at 15%. I’m assuming that’s 15% of the 72k? He has the employer contribute 72k and the employee contribute 0

Yes I have a 401k through my W2 job which I max out at 72k. Is it still possible for me to set up a solo 401k through my STR business and pay myself as an employee so I can do a mega back door roth with another 72k? Is it possible to do what he does, where he contributes 72k as the employer and 0 as the employee?

@Michael Bettan Thanks this is helpful. Is it possible to have employee contribution be 0k and employer contribution be max 70k like how my friend structures it? Or is there a minimum employee contribution?
