As someone developing the next generation of garage management software, this is one of the best episodes. A lot of garage owners that haven't had business training think "If I move to this GMS, all my problems will be solved". Sadly, that is not the case. Before moving to a different GMS, have a think about what PROCESS you want to set at your garage, for example, you could say, we want to start building trust with our customers, so every vehicle that goes on the ramp gets a digital vehicle health check, no exceptions. Ok, that's good. Start doing it, start doing it on paper if you must, then take photos of the issues you find and send them to the customer via WhatsApp along with the technician notes. Yes, paper is old school, but that's not important for now, what is important is testing the process and seeing if your staff are willing to do digital vehicle health checks, are they listening to you and doing what they're being asked? A GMS won't fix these things. PROCESS and Staff mentality/training are the fixes you need. If those are good, and you find that pen & paper slows you down, then start looking at a GMS, or if you are already on a GMS, and you find that it slows you down instead of speeding things up (e.g. won't accept photos cause of silly file size limits, uploads are too slow, it is clunky, the interface is confusing ...etc) then shop around for another GMS. But "I need a different GMS" is rarely the answer as @Andrew Crook said. 👌
