TL;DR Ask these 6 questions to get amazing testimonials: - What was the problem you were experiencing before you discovered my service? - What did that frustration feel like as you tried to solve it in the past? - What was different about my service? - Take me to the 'a-ha' moment when you realized my service could work to solve your problem. - What does life looks like now that you're on this new path. - Tell me about a win (big or small) that you've already experienced. (optional) Imagine a typical person in business. Working full time. Their plate is full. Then they get an email from someone you've worked with: "I want your feedback. Can you please tell me how I did" ⬅️ That's you Problem: it's unfocused. They don't know where to start. They don't have time for something like this. And you never get a testimonial. Instead of leaving an unfocused or vague question, lead people to what you want and help them compose the response. This works equally well for a video (preferred) or text testimonial. Example from a previous talk I gave: 1. What was the problem you identified before having me speak? Response: It is easy at accessibility conferences to be tech-centric and overlook the foundational pieces of developing a culture of accessibility. We wanted a keynote who could bring insight about developing that culture that attendees could apply whether they came from business, education, or community programs. 2. What did the frustration feel like when you met resistance talking to people about accessibility in the past? Response: Many of our attendees shared their frustrations during the session. Two that I saw often in the chat were being confused about how to begin and feeling defeated when their conversations have no impact. 3. What was different about my talk and presentation style? Response: Cam's presentation style kept our attendees engaged and energized them. He creates connections through personal details, humor, and real-life examples. He talks about issues and frustrations with a positive attitude, providing practical tools for people to use while instilling confidence.
