A reflection from this week's live session...
This month we're working on boundaries and on the live session this week, we talked about personal vs. professional boundaries. I realized something: we're often better at setting one but not the other. My challenge for you is to do reflect on where your boundaries are strong and where they might need a little bit of work. Maybe they need work all around! That's okay too. In your practices this month, try to think about where your boundaries are strongest and use that momentum to strengthen the weaker areas! Tell me, where could you use more boundaries?

Sunday Check in (and fascinating somatic fact!)
Hey party people, We had a crew for last weeks live, and one of the same things came up today in our virtual session that I wanted to share here. It's a favorite nervous system reminder : an emotion doesn't need to be "fixed", it needs to be felt. Here's where it gets interesting - Neuroanatomist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor describes the initial physiological wave of an emotion as roughly 90 seconds when we allow ourselves to experience it without re-triggering the story or avoiding/pushing it back down. 90 Seconds...what?!? 🤯 The first thing I thought upon learning this was how many seconds, days, years, decades have I actually spent avoiding my feelings?! And if we learn to stay with them, they actually move out on their own and we can change our story? just, wow. So, there we have it. It's hard to sit with a heated emotion , so when I find myself there, I take a breath. Maybe I'll start with 5 seconds. Meet yourself where you're at and build slowly. It's really wild. Want to nerd out on the 90 second idea? Dr. Jill breaks it down here in this 3 min video. https://youtu.be/-qwIjbtUmaE?si=i9U_Bd8DMMHP6G2U

I love this perspective! This is EXACTLY what I've been realizing recently and beginning to center my work around. Our emotions are insanely temporary. The trouble happens when we suppress, reppress, fight them with logic, or just flat out refuse to feel them. They get trapped in our bodies and inhibit our natural ability to heal emotionally. I wrote a 10-part series about this for my Substack! If you're interested, here is Part 1
Somatic Foundations is now in the classroom! 💚
If you're new to this stuff or want a refresher, this 30 minute course is a great place to start. I created it specifically for beginners to get a sense of what and why this work is important. You'll find it under Somatic Foundations in the classroom. Check it all out if you've got time, or peruse through as you see fit. I love feedback and if anything resonates, let me know!
