Roller Skate Buyers Guide
Before you spend a dollar on skates, read this. I have spent more than ten years on eight wheels living rhythm skating, and the number one thing that trips up new skaters is not their feet. It is buying the wrong pair before they ever get to skate. So I made you a shortcut. This is the SK8SHOT Roller Skate Buyer's Guide. It walks you through exactly how to pick your first pair of quad skates so you fall in love with skating from day one. Inside you will find: - What skates to get and which brands to stay away from - Essential info about wheels, jam plugs, bearings, lacing and insoles - How much to expect to spend and more... Grab the guide below. Once you have it, drop a comment and tell me what you think about it and any questions you have. Hope this helps. Let's get you rolling!

Thank you for this! Great guide... and I love the cover art!
shushing sound on outside edges - what's up?
Yesterday I noticed both of my skates making a shushing sound when I lean on the outside edges and am skating at speed. (I can't get it to happen going slow in my kitchen.) It also seems like when the sound happens I slow down, almost like my skate is braking. What could this be?
small space practice on thin rug?
I was considering getting a very thin, industrial-type rug to use for small space practice in my garage. One reason is that the car drags in a lot of water and even if I mop it up, the floor is slippery. The other reason is I thought it might be easier to start with less friction when trying to learn new moves like strut walk. Anyone had any luck with doing something like this?
Loose control skating in front wheels alone
As soon as I lift my back heel when skating in a straight line, my front wheels immediately wobble like crazy. They aren't going straight anymore but instead are going in an S path I can't control. Why does this happen?

Thank you! I'll experiment with some changes. I'm not trying to do anything specific. Just playing around.

@Lena Watkins hello! What a great wake up call for me. I've plateaud over the last few months and decided that's ok. I have fun every time I go skating whether I'm learning new things or not. I did get inspired to clean up my garage so I can start doing some drills in the cold weather.
April 2025 Skate Challenge
Creating a little space here for some intentional skate work next month. This includes: -Studying/watching tutorials/comprehending and breaking down moves -Practicing on or off skates -Practicing skate adjacent skills such as choreo and timing -Skatenance (skate maintenance) -strength and balance exercises -stretching -Rest and recovery days -logging time/activity, tracking and recording The goal is to do these things with consistency Consistency leads to growth. I like the idea of posting regularly for accountability, but also know that sometimes you just don't have the bandwidth to post every day. Maybe you come back here and post once a week about what you did. Whichever works. I hope some of y'all will join me in this April challenge, and share what you're working on throughout the month. I know the end of the challenge will bring many lessons I'd love to hear about.
