What are you reading this weekend? HF or not?
I'm reading our group read, On the Rooftop by Margaret Wilkerson Sexton, and very much enjoying it! It's about a trio of Black women singers in the 1950s. You?

I'm reading General Joseph Holt's (my 4 x great grandfather) hand written memoir. He was a leader of the Irish Rebellion in the 1790's and a political prisoner transported to Australia in 1799. The writing is copperplate and very hard to read. My personal project is to write a biography that provides personal interesting insights into important Irish and early Australian history.

@Zena Ryder If they were only letters it would be easier but this is over 1000 pages using "old English" and many misspelt place names

I'm a big fan of Peter FitzSimons. He brings history alive by turning out well researched novels. My next read is https://link.amazon/B0atxUEh4

What's your preference in HF stories?
Do you prefer stories centred on major historical events with significant historical figures as major characters? Or do you lean more towards stories about more 'ordinary' people who lived in the past? What's a favourite book that falls into the category you prefer?

@Christine Hastings he focuses on Australian History since European discovery (1770 +). His book on Batavia (1629) is his oldest setting. https://link.amazon/B02PbAk62

@Christine Hastings yes can be a bit intense but isn't the best bits of history also intense? They are reasonably easy to read and he makes history entertaining
