What is your Why?
For me, in a nutshell, it’s about contributing to and facilitating the process for the people around me to achieve their goals, to feel seen, to build confidence on and off of the pitch, about giving people the space to let their voice be heard, whether that’s through them leading loudly or quietly, and enabling them to discover the potential they didn’t know they had. @Gordon Pretorius a couple of examples are for a kid who might struggle control their anger, being able to get onto their level and let them express their anger in a productive way through conversation. With a kid that’s going through a hard time, being someone who can put a smile on their face when playing a sport they love. Most of the time when I was playing sport the best coaching I got was someone just putting their arm around me, telling me to have fun and allowing me to express myself with my rugby. Coaching is a lot easier when the athlete trusts you and knows that you genuinely care about them. (Or so I’ve been told by old coaches, I’m still new in my coaching journey)
