Free Resources for Studying
Hey everybody, I know that a lot of you are in a situation where buying 8+ textbooks for studying is way too expensive or just hard to do. So, I have a list of free resources my favorite one is https://openlibrary.org/ but if that's not enough, text me in the comments and I'll message you a more advanced list! As always, have a great day :)

Get all your textbooks in pdfs and upload them to this website called; turbolearn.ai I stg this can come in so clutch because it condenses the entire textbook, or your preferred section into notes that you can then turn into flash cards, and then turn into a quiz you can do.

When Do I Stop?
I am currently using Rishab's "How to Pick a Science Research Project Idea" template, and on the first step it says to go on Wikipedia and start consuming, by typing the topic in one column, and putting all of the blue, highlighted texts (hyperlinks) in another. Now I'm a little confused because that one topic, and all those hyperlinks is almost the size of an entire page. Do I keep going, or do I switch it up? If you guys can, please tell me how to do the rest of his template, anything would be deeply appreciated. If you don't have experience in Rishab's way, please tell me any other way to choose a topic for my research paper. Thanks a ton!

I'm Lost
Im not sure whether it would be more beneficial to do instruments or sports? I've been doing violin for 3 years but I'm really not that good (nowhere near competition/award ready) I've just started soccer. I'm probably the worst on the team. I know I can't do both, they have conflicting time requirements, but which? Soccer I know would help me stand out against all the other Asian-Doctor-Violin people but is it really better to be Asian-Doctor-Soccer? Additionally, the coach is really accomodating and sweet. I'm taking violin class in highschool already. Also, I'm going into freshman. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Your at a point in your life where you don't know what's next and you don't know how to control it. I too was at this point in my life when I had to make these choices that can either make or break me. I didn't do this but I really hope you do this to is to just step back. Find what you love. Don't worry about all the other cookie cutter Asians/Indians whatever. Focus on your passion and what you love. Because if you can find what you love first, your true passion, there is no doubt in my mind you will become successful. Here is what I asked myself, "What is it that makes me wake up everyday." I hoped this help.

@Finance Main This is indeed the truth, sadly.
Quotes of the Day 49: Scale
Quote 1: “What is a drop of rain compared to a storm? What is a thought compared to the mind?” - The Many, System Shock 2 Quote 2: “I still believe in paradise. But now at least I know it's not some place you can look for. Because it's not where you go. It's how you feel for a moment in your life when you're a part of something. And if you find that moment... It lasts forever.” - Richard, The Beach System Shock 2 is a role-playing horror game which was released by Electronic Arts on August 11th, 1999. The story takes place 42 years after System Shock 2 in 2114 where the protagonist is assigned to the Unified National Nominate Rickenbacker military starship. The protagonist escorts a light speed starship, Von Braun, on their maiden voyage. However, the ship must respond to a distress call from the planet Tau Ceti V where a strange alien egg is found. These eggs take over the rescue team and become a hive mind organism which is called the Many. You are the ship’s last hope to save yourselves from the Many. The series has been stuck without a new entry in the series for a long time which was only made worse by intellectual property right issues. “Bioshock”, another popular video game which made its own successful franchise, is the spiritual successor to the System Shock franchise. The Many is the main antagonist of System Shock 2. Many’s quote explains that a raindrop is a small aspect of a storm. It is a tiny portion of a whole and the Many as a hive mind organism is made up of many individuals. In the same way, a thought is a small aspect of the mind. However–in the same way that one raindrop can start the downpour of a rainstorm–a mind is made up of our collective thoughts, memories, emotions, and hopes. As long as we remember how important each small aspect of our life is, we can appreciate each part. The Beach is an adventure drama film which was released on February 11th, 2000. The movie is based on a book of the same name by Alex Garland. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Richard which was filmed on the Thai island of Ko Phi Phi Le. Richard, a traveler and pop culture fan who loves video games and Vietnam War movies, finds a map left behind by a recently deceased neighbor in Bangkok. The map leads Richard to a legendary island paradise where other individuals have also found themselves. Richard and his companions try to find the paradise island but they discover that they aren’t alone in this paradise. Other travelers already settled on this island which still had all of the aspects of society which Richard wanted to escape. Worst of all, the island neighbors are against the settling of any visitors to their home island.

I took Many's quote. I never really understood what appreciating the small things meant but after I actually experienced the real world with my friends, going to malls, running around at 9:00 in the night (don't do that), I finally realized these small things is what gives me motivation to strive for more in life. Such nostalgic memories. 😁 Thanks so much Daniel for sharing these quotes!

Any Advice for a Current Freshman?
Hello everybody, I am currently a freshman seeking out for any advice on extracurricular activities I can do this year. So, let me break down my interests and current things I'm involved with.... I am a STEM-loving student, who is specifically interested in mathematics and life/ engineering-based sciences. While I haven't decided what I want to pursue, I know it's likely going to be along those lines. That being said, let me share out a list of what ECs I'm doing. Keep in mind that this is my first year of HS, so I am trying to explore as well as excel: 1. Math Team (our club takes the AMC 10 with a few AIME qualifiers. We've made and placed top 5 several times at our state competition) 2. Science Olympiad (our varsity team qualifies for state every year. We typically place top 10, but never have qualified for nationals) 3. Business Professionals of America (I know this isn't related to what I want to do, but it will help me explore. We qualify for nationals in a few events, so I think it can take me far) 4. Volunteering (I currently tutor students on an online platform in a variety of math subjects... Aiming to get 100+ hours) 5. Tennis (this is my favorite sport, so I want to stick with it. While I am not so good, it's something fun I would like to do this year) 6. Student council (I am currently one of 30 class representatives for freshmen... Is it worth it to continue with this?) So, I am open to any new clubs/ advice.... One thing that's been on my mind is research, but like many of you, I don't know where to start. I hope each of these activities can take me far, but once again, please critique or give me any advice! My goal is to find something like research to enhance my STEM portfolio. Thank you!!!

It's great that you like Tennis! Having a sport, or in general a way to be active is great! However, in my experience in seeing at least 15 students be extremely disappointed about these clubs like HOSA, DECA, FBLA, AND BPA they have been doing in HS is legitimately scary. All these clubs are the same with different niches, but if your willing to grind in this club, which is almost impossible because you have other things to do, and bring this club to light and be the top 0.1%, and go to big competitions like ICDC, go for it, but other than so many applicants to HYPSM, having these clubs be in their college apps, it makes it too common, to stand out. Furthermore, these clubs can be very predatory, and competitive.

Additionally, for the Volunterring part, make sure you describe the impact your volunteering has done on your college apps IF you still wish to pursue volunteering further beyond. By this I mean describe the hours, and the amount of children you have tutored. Other than these two points I've mentioned, your cooking!
