NEW APPLICANTS: PREP/SHUTTLE RUN VALIDATION
To all new applicants, We understand some candidates may be confused about receiving an email regarding a Fitness PREP Validation from jobs@ottawa.ca on Success Factors. If you have already submitted a valid PREP or Shuttle Run certificate with your application, you do not need to submit another copy to our Recruitment Team at this time. Please note that PREP/Shuttle Run certificates are valid for six (6) months only from the date of issue. Candidates are responsible for ensuring they maintain a valid fitness certificate throughout the recruitment process. If your current certificate expires during the hiring process, you will be required to complete a new PREP or Shuttle Run and submit an updated certificate. Thank you for your attention and cooperation. Sworn Recruitment Team

@Matthew Byrne I would look into it when are finished background unless you need it for your current employment. Make sure it it at least Standard First Aid (now also known as Intermediate) and Level C CPR. Don’t just go by the name because emergency first aid is actually a lower standard.
9RunRun Ottawa — Run, Volunteer & Support First Responders
Wanted to flag a great local opportunity for anyone in the group looking to give back, stay active, and connect with Ottawa’s first-responder community. I’ve ran the 9RunRun twice, and I’ll be participating again this year. I also know people who have volunteered at the event, and they’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to help support a great cause. 📅 Saturday, October 17, 2026 📍 Village Square Park, Stittsville The event supports the Ottawa First Responders Foundation and brings together Police, Fire, Paramedic personnel and members of the community. 🚦 A couple ways to get involved: • Volunteer — visit the link below, scroll to the VOLUNTEER section and follow the registration link. A great way to give back, meet people and be part of the day. • Run or walk — 5K, 10K, 21K and Family 2K options • Great fitness goal if you’re preparing for the shuttle run, or simply looking to keep your conditioning up afterward. For anyone going through the recruitment process, I think it’s a great opportunity to support our community and get involved alongside Ottawa’s first responders. Event / Registration / Volunteer Info: https://9runrun.ca/the-races/ Hopefully see you out there!

Mentorship and Ride Alongs
I’m looking for some advice from those who have gone through the process. Has anyone had success finding a mentor or arranging a ride-along with an officer? If so, I’d really appreciate hearing how you made it happen. Were there any specific approaches, networking opportunities, or tips that helped you connect with someone willing to mentor you or let you observe their work?

Our ride-along program has been suspended since COVID-19 and never restarted. The best option is to find someone you know or someone who knows someone working patrol and see if they can take you out. This is the quickest way.
