In Japan, when a reply postcard is sent and the sender wants the recipient to write some information, labels like ”ご住所”, ”ご芳名”, and ”ご住所” are printed.For RSVP sections, words such as ”ご出席” and ”ご欠席” are also printed to ask whether the person will attend or not. When the recipient fills out the card, they draw two lines through the “ご” to cancel the honorific.They also cross out ”宛” in the address and replace it with ”様” before sending the card back. This kind of practice is almost never seen in other countries.It is probably a cultural custom that only Japanese people can truly understand.
