no longer number one
Looking for advice as parent of an u16 keeper playing at a very high level. context is that team brought in another keeper (a number 2) last summer to put pressure on my son, which has worked and both lads are getting plenty of game time and are improving technically as young keepers... but as every other keeper are suffering from a lack of consistency and making occasional errors. Team isn't getting results but are playing very well. The lad who my lad replaced went to an elite level club but has been let go by them and despite being told that they weren't looking for another keeper hes come back in as number one out of the blue. My young lad is devastated and we're upset with how it's been dealt with... no trial, just straight back In as the no. one of now 3 keepers in the squad. He is a better keeper but what about the development of the lads that are already here... anyway, just thought id reach out/vent for advice I can pass on the our son. cheers all

thanks for reply. I will chat with his coach, re: doing the same ... at least there would be trials and a process rather than in the middle of the season after being told that keeper was not a position that was looking to be changed

@Adam Ulph both lads told that this returning keeper will be the number one and minutes will be scarce
Confidence battered
So the lads team are in the highest division for his age (u16) outside of national league and they are struggling. On a losing streak if 6 straight and lost again the weekend. He’s had very little protection truth be told but the weekend they battered a team but couldn’t score.. last few minutes he mis-judged a cross and ket it go straight through his hands into the net. His confidence is taking a proper battering even though there is very little he can do for the losses team is suffering. And of course all eyes are on him esp after his mistakes the weekend. Anyway, any tips to bring in as we return to training tonight ? Want to get his confidence going back in the right direction Thanks all

@Danny Fletcher thanks. It’s a rut for sure but we have played the top 4 teams over last few weeks, but when my lads is conceding multiple goals and then drops a clanger (which all keepers do) I’m just hoping eyes don’t look for an easy target to blame. Back to it tonight mind so hopefully attitude isn’t as down Many thanks

Competition for no.1
My son stepping up to the highest level he’s played, has been through pre season and made two awful mistakes in one of the games that became goals. He made two great stops in the same game that kepth his team in the game which they eventually won. His confidence isn’t what it was since and his handling isn’t at the level it was. It’s two weeks before the season starts and the coach who has always said he only wants one keeper and has said all summer he’s not looking for a keeper as is happy with my son, well theres a keeper coming down to trial next week who played at that level last season, one week before the season starts. My son is now nervous that he’ll be cast aside if this keeper performs well in his trial and be left without a club or be a number 2 ( which the manager has always said he doesn’t want). Any advice from those on here would be great Many thanks
