Advise for how to go about a friend that has no positive view on life
Hi everyone! So I have this fairly new friend who I dated for a bit but he decided that he’s not in a position to date right now and finds it hard to have a positive mindset on anything. He’s being accused of something he did not do and may go to jail for a few years if ruled guilty. In the mean time he’s stressed at how his life is falling apart worried he’ll waste his life away in jail when he’s truly innocent. He has to wait 3 months to go to court. He also has lots of payments, lost his job and is currently working but isn’t making near the same amount as he used to and he had his friend as a roommate but just found out that they have to move out in a month since the friends dad and his girlfriend will move into that house (it’s the friends dad’s house). He thought he would move out with his friend but the friend said he believes the guy will commit suicide and doesn’t want to sign a lease with him and that friendship seems to be falling apart. He’s also not close to him family. The last time I saw him he looked very stressed and depressed and I’m very worried about him. I have some feelings for him, I don’t love him but I developed some feelings and it hurts to see anyone in this position and it just makes it worse that I want to be there for him like a girlfriend but I can only be there as a friend. I’m not sure how to help him and what to do or how often to reach out. I’ve let him know multiple times I’m here for him but I don’t want to overwhelm him and I get anxious not knowing anything about him because I’m scared he might’ve done something. How should I go about this? It hurts not knowing anything about him because I worry. The last time we talked was yesterday but he doesn’t reach out to me and he’s gotten dry. I don’t want to overwhelm him or seem needy but at the same time if I don’t reach out I don’t think he’ll reach out. He used to when we were dating but as of lately since we aren’t dating anymore in the one that will check up on him. I don’t know if I’m bothering him since we aren’t dating and decided to stay friends but I’m still reaching out to him.

@Jessie Lynn I would say I am an empath. I’m not sure but I am a very empathetic person. I’m trying to distance myself a bit for the sake of taking care of myself because I am somewhat attached to him and it hurts not being with him but I know that even if we were together I would still be hurt not knowing what’s going to happen in 3 months and he just wouldn’t be in the state of mind to put much effort into a relationship. I care about him and if I were to not reach out to him I would feel like a bad person or maybe he would feel lonely and he’s not putting that responsibility on me but I’m happy to be there for him because he really is going through a lot.

@Robin Lemmonds thank you! I wish you luck. It’s very stressful dealing with a corrupt system.
What is a movie that made you cry as a kid? (reveals alot about your shadow)
what is the dominant emotion, story and message in the movie? (journal prompts at bottom) share below a similar response as I did below (in whatever capacity you have) to what insights you have about what that movie is for you, feel free to add a GIF or photo in your post with your text if you can find one :) this is a shadow work exercise for being aware of why you subconsciously resonate with a movie and the characters in the movie and the emotional impact it had on you can you look back and see reflections of this and the story of your childhood? that movie for me was Lion King... when Simbas Dad died I cried and could feel the pain of him losing his dad my inner child grieved with the loss of the emotional availability of my parents and could empathize with the loneliness and anger that Simba experienced Simba being destined for something he did not feel ready for was a story that resonated with my inner child as well as having the family member of Scar who was negative with negative jealous intentions. I can see looking back that scar was a symbol of the jealousy my ex step mom had towards my brother and I for my dads attention symbolic of wanting the throne from his brother Mufasa. ultimately Simba had to step into a power of leadership and had to regain his power and take it back from Scar. Forgiveness I believe is the vehicle in my own life that allowed me to take my power back from my ex step mom to regain the power in my life this exercise for me has made me aware of the subconscious energy underneath my childhood. I can see that my inner child needed to grieve the loss of his parents presence as well as had a deep love for his dad (and mom too). Stepping into leadership is about taking back the power and not letting someone else dictate my life (like scar and my ex step mom) I can nurture the part of me that was sad about the movie by letting that part of me feel... and let it be okay to feel lonely, sad and angry. I will hold space for that in meditation for my inner child so I can process that emotion and feel more seen heard and nurtured.

A Little Bit Of My Story
My most recent post seemed to help a lot of you, so I'm going to post this here to maybe help some more people and let you all know it's all going to be okay. To get started we've got to go back to January of 2023. I hit my lowest point and had a lot of stuff going on and my stress levels were peaked. I went on trip to see my friend in Arizona and I felt terrible because I wasn't able to be present at all and was only able to think of the things going wrong for me. After that trip I was determined to turn my life around because I didn't want future trips to be me just worrying about things "getting better" at a later date. Over the course of the next 12 months I lost 40 pounds, worked 2 jobs, played in 2 bands, was the president of the soccer league here in my hometown, and kept up on my workouts. Little did I know that grinding this hard and trying to better myself would only set me up for the worst/best moment of my life. I met an amazing woman but didn't realize I would fall into limerence. I never really knew about this, but it was even worse than a heartbreak. One of the worst psychological attacks ever, and I never ever imagined you could get addicted to someone so heavily. To anyone who has ever experienced this, I'm sorry you had to go through it as well. I knew I had to cut ties with her because it wasn't healthy at all for my mental health. I fell into the darkest head space, but I knew there was more than just this going on. I cut ties with her on January 31st of this year and 2 weeks prior to that I left my jobs and started pursuing some online jobs through some courses. Well, this didn't go as planned at all and even though limerence at the time was the absolute most painful thing leading to my dark night of the soul, it was a huge blessing in disguise. All of February I was going to counseling 3 times a week and holding onto my last thread. I can't explain what I was going through, but the pain was so intense I wasn't sure how I would survive. My counselor referred me to this amazing lady who helped so much and come to find out over the next couple months, I pretty much have had zero serotonin in my brain for the past 16 years and my depression and anxiety have only kept getting worse since anything that's untreated usually does worsen. This explained the limerence because a brain going off of no serotonin is always chasing the "next best thing" and looking for dopamine and oxytocin highs. Then come to find out, my T3 is also super low and the T3 in the thyroid controls almost everything physiological in the body and between that and my brain not working right, of course I was destined to crumble.

Desire to live
How do you guys maintain your desire to live? What is it about life that makes it worth living? I know it might sound like a weird question, but I dwell on it so much. I can't answer this question myself. I don't see a reason. Yesterday I did the BW and it helped me so much, but some random things happened today and it already brought back my thoughts of wanting to let life go. It's not that I don't see the beauty of life, it just seems meaningless to me. Like I would easily leave it all behind. I don't always feel like this, so I wanted to see if anyone could give me some insight. I guess I feel disappointed in myself for being like this, like I'm ungrateful to the universe. My birthday is in 6 days and I feel sad about it, so this whole life questioning is stronger now.

What helps me is realizing that those thoughts and feelings are just that and they will pass (not to invalidate any feelings). We all experience negative moments but it’s dangerous once we dwell for too long. Just because they are being annoying in your head, making your mood go down and feeling almost hopeless at times or like things are just meaningless does not mean you should fully give in and let them dictate what you consider your life and choices to be. The more you give into any negative moments or feelings the more you will receive negativity in your life to assure you of your experiences, even if it’s not the energy you want but are giving into. Sometimes the universe will give you what you claim it wants for you, immediately if it’s something negative and over time if it’s positive. I find meditating helps readjusting your negative feelings into positive ones. I remember I had an ex that would sometimes say the world was against him and when he would express that, the universe would test him and instead of treating those tests with patience, he would let those tests affect his mood and make him angry and once he let that thought or situation win, things would escalate and there would be test after test triggering that anger and it wasn’t until he would work with the universe instead of against it or stop feeling like a victim and not let his emotions become so negative that things would get better. You have the power to not give into these thoughts that want to ruin a beautiful person. When you see a child getting bullied you don’t tell them to just let that bully take over, you tell them to fight back or do something about it, not just let the bully walk all over them and hurt and dictate them. Don’t let this feeling of meaninglessness be your bully and win and hurt you, you are love, you have a meaning and you are strong and even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes, the universe wants the best for you and loves you, build that bond with it. Giving into anything, whether it’s “good” or “bad” will bring about a lesson but it’s important to always take that lesson on with patience, kindness, and grace and the universe will reward you. Without those negative thoughts you would not have the chance to reevaluate, improve, and grow but letting the negative ultimately overpower the positive will not leave space for feeling any “meaning”. Every little thing on this planet has meaning and without any bad moments you won’t be able to appreciate the good moments that you’ve earned. Tough times lead to feeling more powerful once you are able to heal and work through them with grace. Please be kind to yourself. And to answer your question about what helps me maintain my desire to live is having moments of connecting with life, whether it’s a song or being out in nature or meditating, anything where I feel connected to myself and the universe and feel this burst of gentle power in me. Sending love 💖
High Quality Friendships
For me, when I think about relationships, I also consider friendships as a type of relationship. I think having high quality friendships to be just as valuable as having a romantic partner. In my spiritual awakening I have noticed a lot of changes in friendships. I have found to be quite challenging because many of my former friendships were based on interests rather than on shared values. I have found studying Stoic philosophy to be useful in terms of what kinds of things to wary of in friendships. Some types of toxic friends include gossip mongers, boundary invaders and fair weather friends. I hope everyone in this group finds friends that resonate with them and bring joy, support, and good times into their life.

@Borislava Nedelcheva Thank you💖 it’s hard on me not having anyone to be close to or go out with, it can feel very lonely and boring not going out or having anyone to talk to but I would rather cut her off if it means not having to go through disrespectful moments from her.
