My scan says I'm broken (literally, see the photo). I have irreversible hip impingement, a spine rotation nobody could explain and on paper it reads like someone who should be careful getting out of a chair. Now, see 2nd photo - Today I did handstands, I trained deep ranges, I moved however I wanted, and I didn't think about my back or hips once. My hip is exactly as 'broken' as it was on that scan. So how does the "broken" scan belong to the person doing handstands? Because a scan is a photo of you lying dead still for a few minutes (damn I'm having shivers just thinking about laying in that tube). And your back or hips probably don't hurt just lying still. It hurts in the nine hours you sit, when you twist to reach the back seat or in your third set in your workout. Guess what, none of that is on the scan. It can't be. The scan never saw you move. I found this out the hard way. Years of waking up in pain, more than five specialists, litres of tears in my car after that one word on repeat: surgery. I said no because nobody could even tell me why it kept happening and I wasn't going to let anyone operate on me just because something is wrong in a photo. So I went and found the answer myself. A clear scan and you're told "nothing's wrong" - so why does it still hurt? A bad scan and now you're scared of your own back, guarding a bulge that half the pain-free world is walking around with too. Either way you walk out with a label and no answer.
