Because here in Northern Europe we have an ancient, mystical ritual for the 12 Holy Days between Christmas Day and Epiphany: It’s called the “Rauhnächte”, a time where the veil between the worlds is very thin, and the forces of nature are unhinged. It’s the “time outside of time”, the “time between years”. Why? Because when you compare the Moon Calendar with the Sun Calendar … 11 days (12 nights) are MISSING. 😳😳 When this pagan tradition was still very alive, this was SUPER spooky. I imagine it like venturing to the end of the flat world, ready to fall off in any moment. 🙈 Back then, people were still at the whim of nature and their circumstances, famines and epi- and endemics could strike any time, there was obviously no electricity, days were short, and the loooong evenings were spent around candle light and fires, sharing spooky stories about hairy monsters and evil spirits that would come to haunt them if they disobeyed the rules … Our world has dramatically changed since then. Thankfully. 😅 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞: Despite the constant busyness and overwhelm and crazy pace of our often uberfull lives, this time of year STILL invites us to become quiet, to go within ... To introspect. To celebrate and learn from the past. To release what no longer serves us. To purge and clear and cleanse. So that THERE IS SPACE for the Magical New. ✨
