Random encounter with the founder of iRealPro in NYC
Today I was in NYC on business and was invited to dinner with my dear friend, Dr. Philippe Moullier, and his his son, Simon. Simon happens to be one of the best jazz vibraphone players on the planet, Grammy award winning, etc. But to my surprise his good friend, Massimo, join us! https://youtu.be/sBkn5NhrzFQ?is=cwgyPfHVhf8c8hvF Description below: Massimo Biolcati is the founder, inventor, and lead developer of iReal Pro. He's a jazz bassist based in New York City who taught himself to code for the original iPhone so he could build the app he wanted for his own practice needs. He originally released the app in 2008 under the name iReal Book (an homage to the classic bootleg jazz "Real Books"), later renaming it iReal b and then iReal Pro after a copyright dispute over the "Real Book" name. In 2010 he founded Technimo LLC, the small company (still just a handful of musicians) that builds and maintains the app. iReal Pro combines two things: a huge, crowd-sourced library of chord charts for jazz, pop, and other genres, and a virtual backing band (piano/guitar, bass, drums) that plays along in any key or tempo — making it a staple practice tool for musicians and a fixture in schools like Berklee College of Music. It was even named one of TIME Magazine's 50 best inventions. Since the app took off, Biolcati has continued to code and play music daily, running Technimo out of New York City for over 15 years. About Simon: Simon Moullier, and he's a French-born, New York-based jazz vibraphonist, composer, and producer widely regarded as one of the leading voices of his generation on the instrument. Background and training: Born in 1994 in Nantes, France, Moullier started on drums and classical percussion as a child and picked up the vibraphone in high school, at age 17, drawn to it because he wanted the more immediate, note-based expression of a horn but had already invested a decade in percussion (DownBeat, France Musique). He studied at Berklee College of Music under trumpeter Darren Barrett, then earned a master's degree at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (now the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz) in Los Angeles, where he was mentored by Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Jimmy Heath.

🎸 Big news: welcome to Marc's Jazz Guitar Academy
You may have noticed the new name, new look, same URL address. Here's what's happening. Starting August 1, everything I've built since 2012 consolidates into this one place. No more separate programs, tiers, memberships or courses living on different platforms. One academy. And you're already in it :) What this means for you: 🔓 *The full classroom is now open* All 30-something courses. Every standard, every deep dive, the complete archives. Unlocked for everyone in here. Go look. It's all there. 📅 *Live calls, every week (continued)* Saturday 9 AM ET with me: our regular office hours, Q&A, jam, whatever-session. Plus Wednesday workshops with Coach, on rotating topics. 8 live calls a month. 🎯 *One clear path* Start (or re-start) with the Pinnacle philosophy, build the Foundations, then stack repertoire and vocabulary, tune by tune. The mountain is big - we chip away at it together. *What does NOT change*: Your access, your rate, your community. If you have any questions about your membership or billing, just email support@jazzguitarlessons.net and we'll take care of you personally. This is the Skool I always wanted to run. Simple, upfront, everything included, nothing held back. See you Saturday at 9. Bring your guitar, your questions ...and your game face! 🎸 — Marc PS one more thing, and it's a fun one. 🎁 The Academy now has an affiliate program: if you know someone who'd love it here -- a guitar buddy, a bandmate, that friend who keeps saying they want to learn jazz, then share your affiliate link. When they join, you earn 40% recurring commission for as long as they're a member. Do the math: refer a few friends, and your own membership might wind up costing you nothing :) Spread the word -- the room only gets better with more players in it.

New amp
I replacing my 15 yr old acoustic amp. I'm considering A Boss Katana-100 Gen 3. I don't gig, I play mostly at home and want a sound that has a warm clean sound and less tinny. I'm looking for suggestions/recommendations from the community. My budget is between $300/$500 US. Tks

@Lawrence Szabo Thanks Lawrence. I had an AmPeg back in the day and it took 10 minutes to warm up but it was powerful. Nothing like a tube sound but I’m going with modern technology and a warranty!😜

Thanks for all of the feedback. I went with the Katana 50 and I'm very satisfied. The tone quality is far superior then the acoustic amp i was using. Looking forward to submitting a song soon.

I'm retired and now have time to focus on achieving my personal goal to play with confidence whether solo or in a jam session with fellow musicians.
