Are You Using Your Singer Intelligence?
Most singers try to fix their voice by listening harder. But your voice is not only something you hear. It’s something you feel. The problem is what you feel is often not what you think you are doing. Tension can feel like support. Pushing can feel like effort. Holding can feel like control. That’s why awareness is so important. This is also what I call singer intelligence. The ability to connect musicality and voice with precise body awareness. Next time you sing, don’t just listen. Notice your body. Where do you hold? Where do you compensate? Where does it feel easy? What do YOU notice when you really pay attention? Let me know below šŸ™‚

Are You Using Your Singer Intelligence?
Breathing exercises: makeup exam :)
Here are the two recordings in which I'm trying to reconstruct two breathing exercises: one where, after opening my chest, I release air on a "sss" while trying to keep the chest open the whole time, and the other where I do short pulses on "ss, ŔŔ, hi, ft" also trying to keep the chest open. I've been doing the exercises for about five days. I should mention that yesterday I really got into the second exercise with the short pulses — it feels very good and I have the impression it tones my transverse abdominal muscle. But when I start I overdo it, and this morning I woke up with a stiff neck muscle. I just learned it's called the sternocleidomastoid, which to my surprise is connected to the breastbone and collarbone and helps lift the chest — that is, inhalation. There you go. And it also hurts when I swallow. And I even feel some tention at the root of the tongue and the scull. The condition worsens as the day goes on. Well, I learned a new lesson in anatomy, but the one about patience still won't take root. Hope you don't make the same mistake.

I think that you're ready to start with the liptrill on that base. But do it in short sessions. :) Eva

@Kristina Hlebec Yes, there are neck muscles that are directly connected to the larynx. Out of that reason I always make sure that my students are able to move their head while they are singing. You can start your daily practice with a massage of your jaw- , throat-, and neck muscles.
Music making
How does one " make music? " How does one become /embody a " pure" vehicle through which the music happens? How do we communicate what we're wanting to express?

Dear Paul, These are beautiful and very important questions. In a way, you are already speaking about the END of a very long journey. Becoming a ā€œpure vehicleā€ for music, where it feels like the music simply flows through you, is not the starting point, it is the result. It comes after years of deep work with the voice, consistent practice, refining technique, and building a very detailed understanding of how everything works. Technique is not the opposite of expression, it is what makes true freedom possible. At a certain point something shifts. You no longer think about technique, but it is there, supporting you like a cushion of air. And that is when you can really let go. That is when music begins to happen through you. But to reach that point, it takes discipline, curiosity, courage, and a real love for the process. So your question is pointing toward something very real and very beautiful, but also something that is built step by step. I would love to hear how others experience this.... :) Eva
Become A Liptrill Master
Lip trills look simple. But doing them really well is not. The quality matters. If your lip trill is unstable, pressed or collapsing, you are training the wrong coordination. A good liptrill needs steady airflow, relaxed lips, and no unnecessary tension in jaw, neck or tongue. This is exactly why I make ALL my students do them. Beginners, semi-professionals and professionals. Yes, I "torture" everyone with it because you can train and prepare so many essential things with this one exercise. If you do it correctly, it becomes one of the most powerful tools you have. You can also take another look at Chapter 3 in my ONLINE MASTERCLASS where I show you exactly how to work with it in details.

@Kristina Hlebec in the Masterclass,1st Year, you find the INTRODUCTION, then as first chapter THE SINGER'S BODY, as second chapter BREATH MANAGEMENT and as third chapter THE LIPTRILL.

Great! Once Posture and Breathmanagement work well, the LIPTRILL shouldn't be a problem. The most important thing is to keep posture, open ribs, open throat, breath suppprt perfect as you learned it in chapter 1 and 2 of the MASTERCLASS. Sometimes singers forget about those basics when they start to work with the voice ( and then wonder why it's not functioning)....;) Keep us updated how the liptrill works. :) Eva
Breathing exercise 1
In these two videos I’m trying to reconstruct the first breathing exercise — both the first and second phases. I’m not sure whether I’m doing it correctly or if I’m taking too large an inhale. I still don’t have a sense of relaxation during the inhale; it feels like my breath isn’t low enough to feel an air cushion — it feels too high, lifting my sternum and creating pressure on the glottis. Also, I’m not sure where I should feel the air leaving on the exhale, i.e., where the body should squish

And here comes my comment to your second video: you're doing the ss too strong for 30 seconds ;) Think about "inhalare" when you do it. And, don't be frustrated when it doesn't work that long immediately. The most important thing is to keep the ribs open and to feel that the larynx automatically goes into a good low position for singing when you inhale through one nostril, widening the ribs at the same time. Try to succeed to keep the ss ( inhaling feeling) 10 to 15 seconds, but make sure that the ribcage stays open. You can also start with breathing exercise 2 ( the one that trains the diaphragm). You're doing great! Eva
