This is why you need a hook shot
Every short guard needs this shot! Being shorter than most of the competition means you have to play smarter. Crafty moves and quick thinking are your best friend. Getting blocked can be one of the worst feelings as a hooper. That’s why you need to master the hook shot! It allows you to lay the ball up right over a defender no matter their height. It’s virtually unguardable… the only factor is can you make the shot. Add this move to your bag! https://youtube.com/shorts/_p3cJzeMdCk?si=4j8mtPTEP6NzsTn-

Free Plyometric guide!
While everyone knows that plyometrics are a necessary part of being a good basketball player… Many people don’t know HOW to use them! This can lead to doing not enough, or in most cases, too much. This often ends in overuse injuries and then no more basketball, which was the whole point. Instead of that whole nightmare follow this simple layout for plyo’s! Start with pogo hops. An easy way to include them is to do them as a warmup before pickup. Second is bounds. These help your first step speed and acceleration. Lastly you NEED skater squats. Basketball requires a lot of lateral movement. It’s often ignored in training programs leading to athletic players who can’t slide their feet or crossover nearly as effectively as they look like they could. Try these plyo’s and let me know what you think! Video: https://youtube.com/shorts/YIscrLk9yP4?si=FBZjg5-XMZSTio4a
Try this sneaky move
Ian breaks down a questionable move… but what’s not questionable is its success rate. If you pull this move off correctly you have an easy open shot! First drive and initiate contact. Then, bump with your elbow into the defender’s hip. Rapidly stop and push at the same time. It is garunteed to get you space. This move is not perfect, but is a good one to keep in your bag for fouling defenders. Watch video here: https://youtube.com/shorts/LzBK1T9foyE?si=YPQTbA-7QDf8Qdx8

Guys, bad news
I had to quit my basketball team. My ma has to get brain surgery, and well. I’ll have to take care of her…

Lux I’m sorry to hear that! Ian and I will be praying for her full recovery. Reach out when you can!
Why your handles still suck
This could be the reason your handle is not improving! You can dribble fast in drills and that is great… But when you get in a game the ball gets poked, your teammates don’t trust you, and coach takes you out of the game. There’s nothing wrong with you. And it’s not that ā€œyou’re not meant to be a point guardā€. It’s that you’ve built a weak system. The best ball handlers have a cadence. A flow. Dribbling fast and stiff is going to KILL that flow. You need to build the flow in your training rather than kill it by trying to out dribble someone’s hands. At the end of the day, at elite levels it’s about body contact, angles and protecting the ball. See how none of those have to do with how fast you can pound the ball in a stationary position? Try building flow by prioritizing moving drills when you train. Let me know what you think in the comments! Watch video here: https://youtube.com/shorts/OZkVmqdOqHc?si=olGMeE9-WrmYTIe_
