Here's where the painting in today's process vid drop is now..
I've been consciously slow with this tiny painting. Many interesting passages happen in the process, but I'm not interested in keeping cool marks that don't further my aim. I want intentionality. So first I have to figure out what my aim is. It starts with a feeling of enjoyment in composition and subject and the desire to convey that. And it is combined with a joy that I have found over and over in simplifying. So where is the perfect meeting place of doing my subject (my experience and point of view) justice in a way that I enjoy creating and in a way that creates an outcome that excites me? That's the work. That's voice.

Monthly Challenge thoughts
What are some different ways you can create a monochromatic painting? I'll go first: You could set up a still life of objects that all lie in the same color family, and paint it from life with your usual palette. What else?

Edit: the photos look a bit washed out, it’s richer in real life (and on my phone!) Also I feel like I’ve let myself down a tad with the drawing, and the whole thing is like a brick to the face on account of the colour, and in no way mysterious or ethereal. Though I wasn’t particularly aiming for that so maybe that’s ok.

@Felicia Forte haha thank you Felicia! All those feelings!! Yes, it’s not my usual work and I was definitely way outside my comfort zone. I am generally low at the moment though - Winter Ethan is on duty!! I really wanted to stick in after I’d said so much - and I stand by it, even if I can’t quite Do It yet! I’d really like to come, thank you for retaining space for me! :) 🌷
