Introduction!
Hello all! My name is Erin Sillery. I'm from Wingate, IN, and entering my senior year at Purdue University in the fall. I will be applying to vet schools this next cycle! I feel as though there's been many enjoyable parts of my journey in veterinary medicine so far. One of the most interesting is that I attended an animal science camp in Missouri from ages 10-17 before working there as soon as I aged out. They have their own private zoo of over 100 different species, which includes the Savannah cat I'm pictured with in my bio (his name is Bentley; he's a big cuddle bug). Another is that I am currently studying at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities for another month through an accelerated poultry program! I will be moving to my internship in South Dakota shortly after, assisting the company veterinarian at Hybrid Turkeys. If I could work with any animal, I would want to work with a red panda. They're so cute and silly! I've always loved watching them at larger zoos.

@Nisana Miller I took a chance & started research on duck behavior in ‘24. Completely fell in love! I’ve been working with the same professor since. I’m very grateful to be learning more about the poultry industry in general! It’s made me reconsider what species I’m most passionate about working with in the future :)

@Kathya's Art Hi! Thank you!! I think my hardest year of undergrad classwise was junior year. I had a rough year personally sophomore year, which definitely didn't make the harder classes fun. But junior year... man. I took organic chem II and physics I first semester & biochemistry and physics II in the second. Not fun! That being said!... it's all about finding a rhythm and work/life balance. My outlook has been that studying is very important and work your hardest WHEN you are physically, mentally, and emotionally present enough for it. I've prioritized sleep, taking breaks, nights out with friends over late-night cram sessions. That balance works for me. Another recommendation is to find friends/upperclassman at your school who have gone through the same classes you're doing! Mine have helped a ton with resources (recommending Youtube videos or websites that explain concepts well, lending old textbooks, etc.) and support that it is possible to get through it! I'm sure you'll do great!! Best of luck :)

This week’s gift goes to @Erin Sillery! Her intro immediately caught my attention😊 she spent years at an animal science camp in Missouri with a private zoo of 100+ species, aged out, and kept right on going as staff. That’s amazing and shows character Add a poultry program at U of M and an upcoming internship at Hybrid Turkeys, and this girl is already living the vet med life before she even starts her application cycle. 🐓 Erin, DM me and let me know which you’d like: 🩺 A personal review of your vet school personal statement 🎁 An animal/vet med gift Also… something’s coming tomorrow. 👀 I’m announcing a fun community competition with prizes and I’m keeping the details under wraps until then. 🤫 Check back tomorrow to get in on it early. You’ll want to be first to see this one. 😊 Keep those intros coming, this week’s gift is still up for grabs!
