Southwest Application
When filling out our flight times, should I be putting my dual received time down as SIC? My total time just isn’t matching up, and I’m thinking that’s the reason. Thanks!

Tyler, thanks for the response. I’m old school and use paper logbooks still. My PIC times and SIC times match my times in my application, but how SWA has their time grid only adds PIC+SIC=Total Time. The difference in my total time on the application and my logbooks is the dual received time. I’m not too worried about it. Just a little anxiety when it came to filling out a precise and detailed app. 😀

Hi everyone, I’m new to the community. Glider pilot at 16 in Germany, came to the US in 1995 and got my licenses, first airline job in early 2001, a career collision with 9/11 resulted in never upgrading. During the recession of 2008 I started my own business and went to work for FlightSafety International in 2011 as an instructor/examiner for nearly 13 years. In late 2024 I took some time to revive my business. I am now looking to find employment in the cockpit once more but I am finding it hard to even get a phone screening even though I have what should be plenty of flight time and multiple type ratings as well as recency in small aircraft. I’m hoping to find helpful guidance, pointers and advice and will be glad to share from what I know if anyone is interested. A safe, healthy and joyful 2026 to you all!

From someone who hasn’t been perfect, and always wonders myself “what if”…it’s not. Every thing happens for a reason, and you’ll find the right place for you. In the mean time do all the things you can control, and the rest will fall into place.

NGPA
Hey all, I will be attending NGPA in February focused mainly on speaking with regionals and anyone accepting R-ATP applications. It’ll be the first conference I’ve attended and I’m not sure what to expect. My apps will be published and I’ll have resumes in hand. Does anybody have any tips/tricks/advice for conference attendees? Should I just expect to stand in long lines all day for my 5 minutes? Is it beneficial to attend the speakers? Will Aviator Intelligence be there? Thanks ahead of time. -Kyle

I have the intention of being there, but my February Schedule and a Daddy-Daughter dance at my girl’s school on the 6th will dictate this. To be honest, I can’t stand these conferences. Everyone is nervous, the recruiters act like it’s a good time, and you’re not alone in feeling awkward about it. The fact remains it’s a good way for the company you want to fly for to put a face with the name. It’s more personalized than a LinkedIn message. It’s true your time is short so have in mind how you want to present yourself and what you want to say. Each one you go to the more confident you’ll be, but the biggest advice I have is to dress for the job you want, not the job you have, relax, and know that everyone else isn’t as confident as they might try to portray. p.s. do you see my dumb picture? I hate that picture, but I got it done for free at an RTAG event, and that’s what’s expected. Sigh. I like my D-backs hat, BBQ, and sweat pants.
