📉➡️📈 Weight after fasting — even in keto, this is normal
Here’s how my weight changed after ending the fast: - End of fast: 81.25 kg - T+1 day: 82.1 kg - T+2 days: 83.0 kg - T+3 days (today): 83.3 kg I’m still fully keto, and this weight increase is normal — and expected. Let’s break down what’s actually happening 👇 1️⃣ This is not glycogen rebound Because I stayed keto, glycogen refilling is minimal. There’s no high-carb intake, so this is not the classic carb + water rebound people often talk about. So what is it then? 2️⃣ Gut content & food mass After a prolonged fast, the digestive system is empty.Refeeding adds: - physical food weight - digestive fluids - increased intestinal activity ➡️ This alone can move the scale 1–2 kg without any fat gain. 3️⃣ Sodium, electrolytes & intracellular water During fasting: - insulin is extremely low - sodium excretion is high - total body water is reduced When you refeed — even keto: - insulin rises slightly (still low overall) - sodium retention normalizes - water moves back into cells ➡️ Scale goes up, cellular hydration improves. 4️⃣ Hormonal stabilization (a good thing) Leptin, thyroid signaling, cortisol, and aldosterone begin to normalize. This supports: - metabolic recovery - nervous system balance - long-term fat loss sustainability This is adaptation, not regression. ⚠️ Reality check (important) - You cannot gain meaningful body fat in 1–3 days - Fat gain requires sustained caloric surplus over time - Rapid post-fast weight gain = water + food + recovery weight 📌 The takeaway Even in keto, weight gain after fasting is normal and healthy. The goal of fasting isn’t to stay as light as possible on the scale —it’s to restore insulin sensitivity, metabolic flexibility, and hormonal balance. If your weight goes up after a fast:👉 your body is refilling, stabilizing, and repairing👉 that’s exactly what should happen Watch trends, not single weigh-ins.This is the process working as intended. 💪
