We have progress (I think)!
@Amanda Leigh Can you confirm that I'm on the right track? I made the grain (long grain brown rice). I sterilized it in the pressure cooker. I added chunks of the culture to the sterilized grain. I tightened the lids all the way then slightly loosened them to allow for air flow. They are now sitting in the back of a closet for 10-14 days and I'm waiting to see the mycelium cover 2/3 of the jar (I'm using the 8 oz jars because that's what would fit in my pressure cooker). Does that all sound right for this stage?

@Amanda Leigh Ok yay! Fantastic. I'll go back and tighten the lids a bit. And yes, filter stickers on all of them. Today I'm gonna see if I can pour the agar again so I can transfer the rest of the culture to new plates (and also see what I can do with that one plate that might have a contamination) ** Note on that one plate -- it hasn't grown or changed color since I told you about it last week so I'm gonna be **super** careful and see if I can save a little bit from the "clean" side. I'll keep you updated
Qs
Hey @Amanda Leigh, I attempted to start the grow process today and didn't make it very far. I have a few Qs that hopefully you can clear up : 1. The recipe for the agar calls for 15-20 min in the pressure cooker @ 15 psi. I quartered the recipe and I'm using the 8oz jars because they're the ones that will fit in the pressure cooker. Should I still do 15-20 min? (My pressure cooker's highest setting is 11.6 psi) 2. Once the time for sanitation is done, do I remove the agar jar right away and pour it into the petri dishes? (Today I waited for it to naturally cool because I had watched a video that said if you pull the top off the pressure cooker right away, the suction pulls in all the contaminants that you just worked to clear out, but then when I went to pour out the agar it was completely solid (in the jar) and I couldn't get it into the petri dishes). 3. Should I transfer the culture into the grain right away (after it's cooled and in the jars) or is it OK to make the grain ahead of time and then transfer to the culture later on?

@Amanda Leigh OK sounds good
Old rice?
Hey @Amanda Leigh I just realized the brown rice I was going to use is old (use by date is 2024). Should I go get fresh brown rice or is it OK to use the 2024 stuff?

Happy weekend to everyone & updates
Hey y’all! Hope everyone is doing well as we move into the weekend. I posted last nights Q&A call in module 2 within the Mushroom 101 classroom. I have been adding a bunch of inspiring & interesting resources in the Soul Beauty Free Skool if you’re interested in learning more about the psychonauts who are pioneers in the field. I just learned that the word psychonaut means “mind” or “soul” sailor and that is just so cool to me. I am still dialing in all of the free circles that will be coming up so please stay tuned for that. I have two people that are interested in joining us to give talks about wild cultivation. ✨🍄‍🟫 Also, Emily and I had a great talk about PF Tek last night and so I’ll be finding a resource to post over the weekend that shows exactly how it’s done. I’m inspired to give it a go as well and so it will be fun to run the technique that was my first lesson in mycology. It is a wonderful place to begin if you’re just starting your cultivation journey, feel free to upgrade to premium if you’re interested in growing along. 🥰 Would love to learn more about the new members if y’all wouldn’t mind, please add to the pinned introduction post. 🌹🍄‍🟫 Thanks everyone
Happy weekend to everyone & updates

Cheat Sheet for Growing
@Amanda Leigh I went to start putting everything together to grow and got so overwhelmed so I decided to make a little cheat sheet of the step by step process. I went through all the info that's in the different modules so far and pulled out what I should do and the order in which I should do it. Would you mind taking a peek through the list and tell me if I got anything wrong or if I'm missing anything? Thanks so much! Oh also -- the instructions say to use the pressure canner at a certain pressure. My pressure cooker only has high or low settings .. do you think it's OK to just use the high setting (Google says the high setting is approx. 11.6 psi)?

@Amanda Leigh I have the Ninja Foodi 10 in 1 (which sounds dramatic but really it's just an air fryer and a pressure cooker lol). It looks like this : I take off the one lid and swap out another lid that looks more like the pressure canner in your videos. I took a quick peek at that guys video and I thinkkk I'll be OK?

@Amanda Leigh Oh I'm glad I asked! I was going to purchase the syringe. .. but I should purchase the petri dish option (I'll go with Blue Bear). Is that right?
