New River Gorge!
Just posting for some stoke! We’re headed out to NRG on Thursday. I’m super pumped. I’ve been doing a ton of research in the guide books, and am excited to get on the rock out there!

Not sure anyone got pics of me doing this one, but here is my wife on Chockstone 5.9+ at Bridge Buttress. It was a really cool climb.

This is the cool looking “trash compactor roof”
Climbing tip for difficult moves.
One piece of advice that has allowed me to climb way harder grades: If you are stuck on a section of a climb, and you mind your mind racing about how “bad” a hold is, or looking at all the things you can’t use, your stuck in an unhelpful thought pattern. Instead, when I find myself in these tough positions I look for “options”, my eyes look around for things I CAN use. It seems obvious, but looking for options rather than just thinking about the lack of them allows you to notice holds or consider moves you won’t think of just sitting there thinking “this crimp sucks”

That section we did on mental game in the bootcamp- one of the days the question was “why do we define/call certain holds bad” has really changed my mentality around it.

Anyone using Blue Ice alpine draws? They look pretty cool.

ive seen them. On first glance, I dont personally think I have much use for them in the styles of sport and multi pitch I would be doing. But I'm sure people are putting them to good use.

Why do you want to climb higher grades?
Some people think of increasing there skills as selfish, not me. I see it as a way to experience new movements. When I walk into a gym and see a climb that looks fun I don't want to be limited by my skills, I want to climb it! I used to suck at slopers, trained on them and now I am not worried about them. I used to be intimidated by cutting both of my feet of the wall and swinging, after training I don't think twice about it. I used to be worried about slab climbing because I thought my feet would slip off at any moment, not any more. I want to climb higher grades to have more options in the gym, I know this makes my life better because it already has... what about you?

Thats a great question. I find that the "grade obsession" exists so much more in a gym setting for people (and myself) than outside. I can have just of a fun and fulfilling day of doing a bunch of V2s or top roping 5.8s with my family outside as I can with my buddies on a try hard day. But put me in a gym, and I can get mad that all I sent was a few V3s.

I’m based in the Atlanta Georgia area. I like to get outside to our local crags bouldering and sport climbing. Ive been climbing for about 3 years.
