Unpopular (Audio) Opinions
Kevin McCloskey posted this in The Reverse Engineer community and it was a super interesting thread... so posting here too! Comment below with you biggest unpopular audio opinions... don't hold back 😈 I'll start with a couple: 1) Most gear preferences in the industry are baseless and random. People just follow the crowd and are easily influenced into think things sound "better". 2) Seemingly in contrast to the above... anything other than an SM57 on a snare is a waste of time. We're so used to this sound that it immediately sounds "right" to us.

@Darren Jackson Easily remedied though. Just set a timer for 10 to 15 minutes. When it goes off, stop looking. Just use a snare hit or a piano (whichever is appropriate) and come back to it later. Who knows? You might get a free sample that'll work great for what you're doing the next morning in an email or something. This will help you get past the "stuçk" point and you can move on with your project. Hope this helps. 🤠

mixing mic Rooms Mid and Side
Ok advacned TRE ppl and forum in general. New concept to me and just searched online for how to "decode" mic placement in the mix for the drums etc. Its a 73 track for a bi monthly mix contest along the lines of sum 41 puddle of mud ref mixes weird use of weird mics inc one under the drum stool! So how would you mix the Mid and Side? Answers could be on an obsolete postcard or postage stamp!

Lol I forgot how to use snail mail but to answer your question, it's hard to answer your question without hearing it but panning would certainly be a very big part of it. Especially the butt kicker mic. Those tend to like a lot of low end. As for the rest, I don't know without hearing it. Hope this helps. 🤠
