I’ve been learning from Rickson since I was very young and when I was a teenager he taugh me privates every week for years while he was in Brazil. I was a teen blue belt and I can say those classes had a huge contribution for my Jiu Jitsu and for my life. He was focused on preparing me for life! Not as many technical adjustments or fancy techniques, but tons of Dont touch my face and Base! Also worked a lot on my attitude and behavior. Sometimes the best classes were on the beach before surfing! Now as a black belt the classes are not only helping me as a person and practiotioner but mostly as a teacher. Priceless info on how to teach and deal with any kind of student! Its a true blessing!

Focus for the week (visualization)
Start to practice visualizing things if you haven’t already. This is a skill that gets stronger with practice. This week, practice visualizing something you are very familiar with. Like your being in kitchen or driving your car or walking your dog. Close your eyes and try to be there with all your senses. Do this for a couple minutes a day. Each time you visualize, tap into all your senses but flex one sense above the others. Try to level up your ability to smell things in your visualization, for instance. Each time try to dial up a different sense and become more strongly connected to it. Over my time training, I would visualize fights and public speaking engagements and big wave surfing and such in order to prepare myself for these activities. When you learn to visualize sharply with all of your senses, your brain cannot really tell the difference between the visualization and the actual activity. It his is another way I was able to train extra. Hope you all have a great week of training.

James, I’ve never had the pleasure of taking a lesson from you yet, but I have been learning a ton from those lives! Your way of explaining Rickson’s concepts and principles is amazing. You are an outstanding professor and Rickson must be really proud of you as a representative of his Jiu Jitsu and his legacy. Keep up the good work
