Big Breakthrough Moment! 🎤
In May, I had hiatal hernia surgery, and I’ve been on a long road of recovery ever since. My voice has been slowly regaining strength as I rebuild my core, but I’ve still been battling silent reflux and discomfort when I sing high notes. As a vocal coach and songwriter, it’s been beyond frustrating. Last night, everything changed. I got to sing at a masterclass with Andrew Byrne, the author of The Singing Athlete, who connects neuroscience to singing. In just 20 minutes of working with him, I went from straining to belt my top note (with shakiness and tension) to singing it probably better than I ever have in my life! Turns out, my cerebellum was completely shut down, and my left side needed to be reactivated. Through muscle testing, some weird stretches, and even crazy pinhole glasses, he reduced the threat level in my body so I could finally relax and sing with ease. What’s wild is that this journey connects all the way back to a car accident 5 years ago that caused a bulging disc in my neck, which might’ve triggered a domino effect of reflux and diaphragm issues. It’s a reminder that our voices are deeply tied to our bodies—and healing takes time and the right tools. Ironically, I almost didn’t go to this masterclass. The organizer and I connected in a real estate group in 2023, found out we were both theater/music people, and stayed in touch. When he invited me, I hesitated because it was expensive, and I haven’t been feeling 100%. But I thought, “When else will I get the chance to sing for a Broadway musical director?” So I said yes. Was my performance perfect? No. But the wisdom I gained from this experience was priceless. 💡 Golden Nugget: Create relationships, build friendships, and say yes to opportunities—even when it’s scary or inconvenient. You never know who will hold the answers to your challenges or when a breakthrough moment will come. I’m so excited for my private lesson with Andrew today and can’t wait to keep sharing this journey! 🎶 #VocalBreakthrough #SingingJourney #NeuroscienceAndSinging #HealingThroughMusic #SayYesToOpportunities #KeepSinging
