Long but good weekend
Talk about covering all my bases! This weekend my duo played at a Boutique/Bar on Friday night, a ceremony/cocktail hour for a wedding Saturday night and a church service/hour set of country music at a local festival this morning. For those who gig, one thing I suggest is being flexible and learning lots of material. Because we can play so many different genres, it allows us to book 3 completely different gigs in one weekend alone!

@George Zapata for sure. As musicians we tend to just want to learn and play what we personally enjoy, but if you want to open up revenue opportunities, gotta learn some stuff you may not enjoy as much!

Slacker
I feel like a slacker. I practiced scales for 30 minutes. C pentatonic scale in all 5 positions. Then practiced songs for an hour. Feel like if I don’t play twice that long I’m not getting the job done. lol.

Scales for 30 minutes is 30 minutes longer than I ever manage. You are far from a slacker with those practice times.

The other you
Hey folks, I know most of us don’t make our living playing guitar, so what is your profession? My career was in electronics and technology development. I’m now doing financial advising and building amps and stuff as a hobby. Guitar collection currently sits at 10 with one or two more incoming. I’d love to be out playing live again if my schedule wasn’t so whacked.

I manage a family owned restaurant, which is actually what got me back to playing music after some 15 years away. I also own a local Paint & Sip Company despite not being able to paint (I have 7 artist that take care of that part for me!). I am working on expanding in to a rental company that can offer not only paint and sip, but live music, lighting, rentable PA/Mic, photo booth and a tent. Then I am lucky enough to perform a few gigs a month.
