Seeking help… right/left issue when shooting
👋 Hi Kevin. I am currently struggling with direction when shooting. Mostly I tend to miss shots on the left side. My Stand were always skewed to the right a little bit. When I skew my feed even a few cm more to the right it corrects that issue. I do this in tournaments as a „quick fix“ but it lasts only for that day, so this time at the training game I refused to correct my stance and just record myself. I feel like there is something wrong at the release part. Maybe something with my shoulder or timing of release. Usually I have that feeling that my hand snaps into the right position so I know immendiatly if my ball is straight or not. That feeling is totally gone. Would appreciate any feedback.

yes, but when I watch professionals on youtube, i chuckle ... looks like some of them do all the wrong things 😁 I noticed when I go down to low I miss a lot, I try to minimize bending and use a good back swing and stretch forward straight to the target ball. I still only have a success rate of between 40 and 50 % ... I need to improve a lot. I found Kevin's advice about concentrating on the process and repeat that every time extremely helpful. In the videos you hit a lot of balls .... what was the distance ?

@Rick Bergmann Yes, everyone has his or her own style. I like Diego Rizzi's upright posture and the easy swing. Also, I like Cindy Peyroit's style, nice backswing and stretch forward. But, it takes practice to develope one's own process and style.
No way the Mrs is letting me have one of these lol

First big competition of the year tomorrow
Arrived in Cherbourg today for the Department triples tomorrow with 2 new teammates that I’ve never played with and yet they have faith in me to deliver. It’s going to be fun and I hope to live up to expectations despite hardly playing since November had a good few hours with @Stephen Daykin earlier with the new terrain and looking forward to 168 teams from all over Normandy tomorrow

I wish e could still play competitive petanque. God willing later in the year. I must add something here .... the advice Kevin gave about the 'process' before pointing and shooting has helped me tremendously when I practice almost every day. I wish I had this information a few years back ! Thanks Kevin
Are you playing this weekend?
My first proper practice for 2026 starts this weekend as I’m restricted when it’s cold. First competition is next weekend when I play with a GB junior player to help his game

'Proper' Technique
I have developed a style of holding and throwing the boule (shooting) that works for me since I started playing with casual players 3 years ago and received no instruction from them. I have improved steadily even though my form is not "technically correct". This weekend my son and I placed 3rd in a regional tournament of 16 teams but was told that my 'improper' technique will be self-limiting and that I should scrap my learned technique sooner than later and re-learn using the "correct" form. Thoughts?

James, I was told once that the 'rolling' shoot is frowned upon. On a smooth surface I used to shoot that way and hit many boules. Now I have adapted and shoot half volley or direct. Sometimes I still use the rolling shoot method on a smooth surface and I really don't care is someone frowns, I just smile when they shoot 'properly' and miss). When I hit (especially if my boule stays in the vicinity) I am happy. I agree what Kevin says about the sledging part.
