I was going to write about the most recent time stumbling upon a social theory not ever written about and not knowing how it would be received. After the reviews came in on Amazon I realized I was a thought leader. But being inspired by Mrs. Weaver on a more academic version my college papers for a couple courses were praised to where I felt a bit out of place, but I knew my ideas and writing always came from my core. One commented as she waited to give me my paper back as the last person to hand them to, “ This is Ivy League material.” I really appreciated that and I think my Sicilian peer sitting across from me remarked, “ You must be some sort of genius.” I said no. I can mention another time but won’t. But I will say how I started writing and began taking it seriously. As a freshmen in college I didn’t understand the format of college papers. I was confused and a bit overwhelmed. I ended up plagiarizing my first English paper. I got caught. I met the professor after her day was over and was asked, “You know why you’re here?” I said yup! She had a confused look. I said, “I know I plagerized it’s the only reason I could be here seeing you!” She told me I couldn’t do this again or I won’t be able to apply or get into any college. She recommended tutoring and I finally understood. That’s all I needed, more attention and one on one so I can learn the format which I did. That’s my long story but glad I told it.
Coming up: Guest Speakers!
Hey, awesome community! I'm going to bring in a guest speaker each month to speak on a topic related to writing and publishing. I have a couple of ideas lined up. Let me know if you like these. If there's another topic you would like to see a guest speaker on, list it below in the contents. If you like more than one topic, check off the one you like the most and leave the other topic in the comments.

@Lynn Smargis thank you I’ll keep that in mind for my next book. I think changing it now after 7 months of being published is not the way to go though I may be wrong. Shipping with a tracking number is like $9.00 without one it’s like $4. I didn’t price my book my publisher did.

@Sheryl Robinson got on a couple with another podcast pitcher but this one is way cheaper. Seems like a better deal. https://podmatch.com/#pricing

Running ads on social
Any tips or tricks for runnings ads on social? I have a niche market so there is a target audience, but I’m curious what else I should consider for a promotion on social media

Test your ads to see which ones are the most successful before spending a ton of money on a campaign with little results. Either way it’s not easy. From what I hear the best is having a CTR of 2.5 or higher at a CPC of .40 or less. That’s a good ad. To get these results you can either test each aspect of an ad individually using a program like Pieper’s Click Testing for Authors. If you have the time and are the creative type go for it. Or you can just create an ad YOU like that’s untested and maybe you can get similar results. I pray you do. Static ads are good and are better than low quality video ads. But a good video ad is better than a static one. And sometimes using both is good. Video ads work best when under 30 seconds. I’ve gotten decent traffic to my site through ad campaigns using these ideas, even got like 10 purchases within 1 hour but I never replicated that result. I wasn’t sure what I did. Anywho good luck, Lynn’s ideas are great she knows her stuff, so I’m glad to be part of this group alongside you and the rest of the crew.

@Lynn Smargis you can sell your books directly or drop ship them with IngramSpark who owns Tertulia.
If your book were a TED Talk, what would the title be and what’s the core message?
What would your talk be called and what is the one message you want people to remember?

I applied for a TedTalk months back before starting my 3rd book. I thought, I might need help writing this up. It’s supposed to be 3-9 minutes tops for best results. Hmm, I’d call it, “ Keep Imagining: Community as Our Most advanced Technological Breakthrough.” Core Message: What if we got technology wrong? Instead of focusing on things like AI, robots, super intelligence, and other “things” that thwart human interaction/creativity, what if we focused on the people first, and what we can make together? My book, “Imagine: Toward a Brotherhood of Man.” Gives the blueprint for this, I feel.

@Sheryl Robinson this is perfect. Youth are so under appreciated in our culture. I feel they have so much to offer, but 12 years or more of public schooling kind of forces a kid into a way of behaving that doesn’t let them contribute to society the way I know they can. Online influencers are just a start and it’s great we have youth doing that but I feel so much more could be contributed but we as a culture seem to dismiss youth as in need of training. I agree some need it, but what about those born able to produce music at an early age, or art, or graduate from college at like 9 years old. We should be paying attention to this. Anyway good stuff. Youth need us.
